Israel "el Magnifico" Vazquez is with the commentary team...looking dapper in his single-breasted suit, bright yellow tie and Buddy Holly glasses.

First up is Jayson Velez vs. John Molina (no relation)

Velez is like a foot taller!! This is madness.

    Round 1

Velez jabs and slowly circles the much smaller man. He catches Molina at the end of a long straight punch and the crowd whistles loudly. Velez keeps turning Molina and jabbing him from far out, exercising his considerable reach advantage. Molina crouches down and tries to jab his way in at Velez's beltline. Velez is using some calm, deliberate footwork - nothing too fast or fancy but just enough to stay squared up and jabbing Molina's short little ears off. Velez lines up a right cross across the top of Molina's head and the crowd roars. Velez continues to trim Molina's buzzcut with those rights and the crowd is going absolutely bananas.

    10-9 Velez

    Round 2

Velez double jabs. Molina keeps crouching down low and trying to jab inside underneath Velez's punches. Velez keeps hitting him with jabs and lead rights from across the Tecate logo as they circle it in the middle of the ring. Molina swipes with some left hooks but doesn't even come close. Velez is just toying with him from the outside, landing jabs and right hands. Velez has his knees slightly bent and is just having target practice on Molina's face. Molina bravely tries to step inside with his body cheated off to the right and flick backhand jabs up in Velez's face. Velez just keeps hitting him with lead rights and some left hooks to the body (still far enough away that Molina can't hit back).

    This isn't even fair. :verysad

    Round 3

Velez is hooking to the body playfully as Molina tries to upjab. Velez is now bashing him with a hard 1-2 to the face, repeatedly. Molina manages to jump inside and hold. Velez jabs and plunks a downward right cross on Molina's face. Velez lands an uppercut from the outside. Molina keeps boldly trying to flick low jabs to the belt area as he works his way inside and tries to hold. Velez just menaces him with the right hand and backs him across the ring. Velez catches him in the corner and bangs him with body punches from either side.

I swear, there is a gap of at least eight ****ing inches between these guys. It's like watching a normal sized person fight a midget. This is making me sick.

    Round 4

Velez leads with an uppercut, hurts Molina and lands several hooks. Molina escapes to the ropes and is whacked with a few hard reach-around right hands to the body. Velez gets in close and lands some hard upper-hooks and gets Molina backed into the ropes (which Molina almost folds himself through butt-first). Velez whips him in the face with a HARD uppercut and Molina backs into the ropes but keeps fighting back with woefully ineffective short punches, working his stubby arms overtime but coming nowhere near reaching Velez's chin nor his thin and lanky body. Velez chases with his 1-2, with Molina ducking at the end of it. Molina gamely comes back and thrusts a jab up into Velez's face and then holds. Molina has heart. Velez is just jabbing the daylights out of him. Velez even looks a little bored. Velez rushes in and lands a 1-2 and then misses with a slow half-assed hook.

Good, the towel is thrown in by Molina's corner just as the bell is sounding to start the 5th.

So that's officially a 5th round TKO, and if they'd been a few seconds earlier it would be a 4th round RTD (the difference being that the bell sounded to begin the 5th making it a TKO, whereas a retirement occurs during the minute between rounds when the fighters are on their stools).

OK...upon rewinding, the Tecate tale of the tape shows that Jayson Velez is 5'9" with a 72" reach (which seems right) and John Molina is 5'5" with a 65" reach.

    NO ****ING WAY.

The seven inch reach advantage, fine (maybe a bit more, but close enough).

There is more than four ****ing inches separating these two.

Boxrec has John Molina listed at 5'2". That seems MUCH more likely.

    Here we go, main event.

Michael "Artista" Perez is 5'9" with 74" wings; Marcos Herrera is 5'10" with 70".

Perez (who was in a 2010 FOTY candidate with Jose "Loco" Hernandez back in December) weighed in a pound over the lightweight limit for this.

    Round 1

Perez works his nice jab and hooks off of it while stepping inside Herrera's lead foot. Herrera leans away and flings long jabs up from his hip. Herrera is pumping his jab regularly now but not close enough to land it. Perez leads with a couple of right hands and manages to catch Herrera flush. Perez eats a jab when he stands still a moment too long but gets moving and lands a quick pot shot on Herrera while moving past him. Herrera lands a nice left hook at the bell.

    Round 2

Perez is leading with the right hand and landing well. Herrera is trying to jab and uppercut his way inside ineffectively. His face is red from those rights landing. Perez starts working in some short clipping hooks. Perez is just comfortably boxing at medium-long range. Herrera leads with an uppercut and does manage to surprise Perez with it, landing on the chin. Perez just gets into a rhythmic circling motion, hooking and jabbing Herrera in the face. Perez stands in and trades, getting the better with his quicker hands and truer aim. Herrera is blasted with a 1-2. Herrera just keeps walking through leather trying to land his own. Herrera has a slight facial resemblance to Johnny Tapia and right now his demeanor is very much reminiscent of Mi Vida Loca.

    Round 3

Perez leads with hooks and swiftly steps out. Herrera is trying to pummel the body as he rushes in and then bring prolonged combos upstairs. Perez is just cracking him in the head with shot after clean shot and Herrera ultimately drops his hands and takes them while he tries to lobby for position in front of Perez. Herrera finally gives up and backs away, as Perez carefully hooks after him. Now Herrera resumes his aggressor role, stalking but not punching. Herrera thrusts out a few jabs and Perez slips. Perez misses with a hook and gets Herrera in a headlock. They both fire from a few inches away and get their arms tangled up. Perez flicks a jab into Herrera's face and then digs a right to the body. HUGE overhand right to the face by Perez. Herrera has a hell of a chin.

    Round 4

Perez slips a Herrera jab and comes right back at him, hooking low. Both are waiting and posing from about a foot apart. Perez watches a few Herrera jabs fall just shy of his turned-away chin. Perez steps through and digs in with an uppercut as Herrera misses a 1-2 wide of his face. Herrera keeps reaching for Perez, headhunting, and gets countered hard with an overhand right. Perez throws a 1-2 to the body but Herrera jumps out of the way. Herrera is now getting negative, hanging by the ropes and using an awkward stance with his gloves turned out. Herrera throws his 1-2 as Perez fails to take advantage of the lull. Perez lands a jab, misses the cross behind it but lands an upward hook to the chin of Herrera. Perez jabs out and grasps Herrera's shoulder with his open left glove, holding him away as Herrera swats as his body.

    Round 5

Perez jabs and catches Herrera a couple of times, snapping his head back once. Perez is all business, tight and calm - but no fire. He just keeps doing his work, jabbing and pulling back and keeping his right hand up by his chin. Herrera crouches on the outside and uses some jerky movement to loop around and force Perez to turn quickly. Perez lands a hook on him while turning, showing Herrera that he can't catch him out of position. Perez sticks his left out and Herrera walks into it, causing them to clinch up and both of them try to work their hands free. Perez is making Herrera miss with jabs and rights to the body, twisting out of the way of most of them and having some just slide off of him harmlessly. HARD LEFT HOOK AT THE BELL by Perez, nearly sends Herrera's head into the eighth row.
