This might just be the most exciting and buzz-worthy 18 year old and/or 2-0 boxer active. He is also still a full time student...in HS. Already having boxed for nearly half his life, the aggressive and ambidextrous Ximenez took the leap into the paid ranks last September after a celebrated amateur campaign. He was rumored to appear on the Pacquiao-Margarito undercard - and later scheduled to face cross-metroplex rival Rafael Casias on short notice just a week later on the Williams-Martinez II undercard, but circumstances would not see him back in the ring until February...where he was given a rare opportunity to shine (rare enough as to be unheard of, for someone of his age and experience) and did he ever shine... Here is his latest & sophomore effort as a pro, nationally televised on ESPN2: [yt]GJp5PT1LJxc[/yt] (starts at 44:30) Here he is in an exhibition with Art Trevino, a sought-after sparring partner in the lower weights in the North Texas area (who as a pro went the distance with up-and-coming Robert "the Ghost" Guerrero and Tomas "el Norteno" Villa): [yt]7r2b8s3uu5I[/yt] (Ray is the shirtless one; outweighed here by about 25lbs) Here is a look at his amateur days, cleaning up at youth tournaments: [yt]5gB53dbge3A[/yt] [yt]ypboaJuoEns[/yt] ...and here, winning the Jr. Olympics: [yt]AfkSkVEnzRo[/yt] The kid seems to do just about everything well, has stamina to spare, a choice work ethic and a simply great style. Who could resist???
was fun watching him on fri. i hope he gets the job done. america could use a young hardworking star. wish him much luck
Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit. Less than a month ago, he was seventeen. He is seriously going to get crazy good. 2020: the top 3 p4p... Saul Alvarez Gary Russell Jr. Ray Ximenez Jr. I don't even know what order.
Damn, that's some very calm and well put together punches. Maybe not the most thunder thrown behind them, but he's certainly trying to get his shots in, no pussyfooting around I guess. And that stance switching is driving me nuts just watching hi, i feel sorry for the guy in the ring . Very good combination punching. Forget 2020 IB...Think 2015-16.
yeh looks good. That would have been stopped over here in England after the 1st coupe of minutes. That fighter was taking way too much punishment.
:yep I expect his KO ratio to rise...as Rock said, he's got his man strength to grow into and will learn how to finish.
I'd certainly like him to be more active than biannual. a) because he's exciting to watch and b) it's better for his development. Basically as often as he can get in the ring without affecting his academics is ideal.
Yeah. :good It's on the front page for who knows how much longer, but the article is titled "A Quick Study in the Fight Game" if people just Google that.
