Not really. Fury right now is on the level of Leon Spinks who beat an aging champion with no significant wins after that. Fury has to come back to improve his status. His resume other than Wlad is pitiful.
Yes, but if Wlad has enough left to beat other highly-regarded young HWs like AJ, then Fury's win over Wlad goes up in value. I'm not saying it makes Fury a lot greater, but the question marks over beating an aging champ would be lessened. Tyson Fury's resume is weak but better than Leon Spinks's 6-0-1 prior to Ali.
If true then I think Wlad might be making a mistake. He'll be 41 years old in April next year and he hasn't fought since November last year - that's a long time inactive for an old fighter. It might be smarter for him to walk off into the sunset now he cant get his rematch with Fury - nobody would think any less of him for it.
Definitely some similarities there. Especially Wlad-Holmes both being old, 1.5 years of inactivity, and having just lost their titles. I don't think Tyson-Joshua are quite as comparable though. Joshua is a young prime titleholder like Tyson was but he isn't nearly as proven as Tyson was. Johsua has beaten Breazele, Martin, Whyte, and a few past their prime fringe contenders. Not bad for a guy with 17 fights. Tyson had 32 wins and had just beaten Berbick, Tucker, Biggs, Thomas, and Bonecrusher-all top 10 heavyweights. Tyson had just beaten half the entire top 10 in less than a years time going into the Holmes fight. Joshua isn't nearly as proven as Tyson was. Wlad-Joshua is similar to Tyson-Holmes in a lot of ways but I think Wlad has a much better chance going in then Holmes ever did.
Well...is this bout on or is it still a rumour? It's lose-lose for Wlad. If he loses, he's done. If he wins, it's just a 17 bout novice that he beat. It's win-win for Joshua. If he wins, he's beaten a former HW champ...would be on the level of Marciano-Louis. If he loses, it's because he wasn't ready for the big time; he's still a young man. (this assumes he doesn't pull a Walter and quit).
