I don't know if gomez is fast enough to hang with Cotto but something keeps telling me that there's an upset looming.

Then Margarito is running with confidence and is stated saying that he will beat Cotto and Cintron...

As Relentless would say 'i have a funny feeling on the tip of my *****' that there could be an upset...

Marg is a non factor is the WW division right now. If he gets some impressive wins against Cintron AND Cotto, then we'll have something to talk about.

Then we would get the fight we've truly been waiting for -- Margarito v Mayweather.

Margarito who has the height, chin, and the work rate that has had people saying for years that he should fight PBF.

Height and chin are non factors for marg to beat PBF. He has beaten taller fighters before. Chin, PBF isn't a head hunter. He picks em apart piece by piece. BTW, I appreciate you playing devils advocate in this whole thing, cuz both of us know there is good comp at WW, but none good enough to top the p4p king.

I take Cotto over gomez reluctantly b/c i have the sense that Gomez may have a Quintana v PW type night and completely show up. Gomez has taken hits from people at 168. Clearly has the body and fortitude to withstand Cotto's best.

Marg-Cintron, I will say Marg. Just because the first fight probably left a mental scar on Cintron's confidence. It's like gettin beat up by the school bully when you're the new kid, and then fighting him again after you've been on the block a while. I know Cintron has improved drastically, but I think he is still scared of Margs power.

I agree with you about Margarito v Cintron ... I don't think that Cintron has recovered mentally from that fight w/ Margarito.

He lost in a devastating fashion too --

That fight w/ Feliciano tarnished Cintron's career .... yeah he won the fight but he made it a tough fight against a guy who has no notable fights in his career.

I'm glad that the promoters/fighters/managers are taking steps to get the whole WW mess cleaned up though. After the belts were split up everyone scrambled to get their trinket and now we have fighters like Q and Cintron having a title and a claim to be ww champ. :patsch I think that PW will get his rematch (if it was claused in) and beat the snot out of Q. Marg will get the belt Cintron has. Cotto (or gomez) will fight Marg. Down the line PW (or Q if no rematch) will take on the Cotto (Gomez)/ marg winner and the winner would have all the belts. Note, if Q doesn't rematch PW and Cotto wins, I expect Q to vacate before he fights Cotto again.

The WBO strap even though he it has more lineage than WBA and IBF straps never played a factor in the "true" championship picture of the WW division.

If one guy grabs the 3 remaining straps besides the WBC and brings that into the equation for a fight against PBF, then there is the MEGA fight. Unification, Legacy, immortality, rewrite history books, etc. That is the fight I think PBF is waiting for. I think it could happen end of 09

Oh yeah ... thats the reason for the layoff and thats the reason for the second fight w/ DLH.

It also gives the frauds a chance to get exposed and the real contender shall emerge once the dust settles.

I believe that once these guys lose -- that talk about a fight w/ Floyd will come to an end and back to the drawing board they go.

Just like Margarito -- he felt that he deserved the shot against Mayweather and once he lost ... the talk quickly went away. The same will go to the losers of this tournament.

There are a lot of frauds to be exposed, so to speak. Fitz, if cotto loses to Gomez do you think the backlash will be along the lines of PW's loss to Quintana? IMO, I think it would be worse, especially losing to Gomez of Contender fame. I can see the headlines now, and I can see the excuse threads a mile long.

Yeah some will say Cotto's a fraud, overrated, this and that.

People will also make excuses and discredit anything that Cotto has accomplished.

I think it will be worse than Williams because people have more expectation of Cotto than any other fighter - because they want him to be the guy to give PBF his stiffest challenge. Fans and haters alike are running out of options.

If Cotto loses down the line -- expect to hear Pacquiao's name should he get past Marquez.
