Because of the money -- he can make 25 mil for fighting DLH. He figures that Cotto should build up his status before challenging for his title.
Why you think he's taking such a long layoff?

They will fight - the public demands it - if not this year, next year.

How dope would it be if Cotto got the IBF belt and fought Floyd for the WBC and ring belt.

Then the purse is alot bigger, the aticipation is bigger, and they both stand to make alot of money.

That's what I've been saying. Cotto can punk Quintana to give him his belt, then beat the cintron/marg winner then we will have 'unification' again. Technically speaking, PBF should have all the straps.

That fight will be bigger than Hearns/ Leonard

Two undefeated fighters in the prime of their careers both are the best and have beaten the best.

And who's to say that after all that **** thats being talked that Cotto won't lose like Margarit did (after calling Floyd) or how Williams did after mentioning a potential fight with PBF.

The way this fight is being anticipated who's to say that they won't have it at Yankee Stadium or the big house (michigan stadium)

Now that you mention it, everyone who claims to have the answer to PBF seems to be knocked off prior to fighting him. If that happens to Cotto I wonder if the masses will hop ship like they did when Paul williams lost. I actually felt bad for the kid b/c he genuinely had an off night. He looked nothing like the guy who fought marg.

Do you think Michigan (ann arbor i think) has a big enough boxing scene to cover such an event? I understand PBF is from there, but that location can't be in the top 10 places this fight could happen. Hell Spinks can't even sell out a barbershop in STL.

    see aint that a *****

I wouldve loved to see Margarito fight Floyd

But too many mistakes, first not unifying the belts with Baldomir, which wouldve given him the upper hand in requesting a fight. Second fighting Williams when he had an offer on the table to fight Williams.

Williams got caught up in his own hype -- he shouldn't have fought Quintana, he shouldve waited for Margarito or Cintron.

    Hell yes
I'm from GR and I know that boxing is big here, next to HighSchool sports and UM football.

During the state championship (held in GR) in boxing its like a football atmosphere - cars are painted, thousands are elbow to elbow, mostly drunk, cheering from their hometown fighter.

Last year Andre Dirrell was there and this year the nationals are going to be held in GR.

As far as a fight turning out big in MI, involving Floyd, Forget about it.

NewYorikans, Michiganders, and all casual fans here and there would come, especially if theres a dope undercard.

Exactly what I was thinking. I thought Williams fighting Q was a big mistake b/c of what Cotto did to Q. Q wasn't even in the WW title picture and Williams wanted his name to still be hot in the WW headlines. I guess the saying 'hindsight is 20/20' fits this fight the most. I don't care what anyone says, nobody really gave Q a chance after seeing what Williams did to a respected margarito.

That is the catch right there... The undercard has to really support the main event if it is held in MI. I think that is the 'beauty' of Vegas. It really doesn't matter if the arena sells out b/c those who do show up are there to spend and make the fight profitable. Not to mention PPV buys.

Yeah and the same thing when he fought Julio ... People thought that Julio was going to beat the unknown Quintana and he pulled off the upset.

Everything right now seems to be working in Cotto's favor and it seems weird that both he and Floyd are both taking bull**** fights. The great thing is Floyd is fighting towards the end of the year and Cotto is going to fight possibly 3 times this year, giving HBO plenty of opportunities to sell and hype the fight.

I see him beating Gomez and Margarito winning against Cintron, then a fight between the two this summer w/ the winner taking a madatory (in the case of Cotto) or fighting Quintana (in the case of Margarito)

For some reason....probably b/c of what i had said about the boxers that were supposed to be able to beat PBF and losing prior to the match.. I can see Cotto on the losing end of one of his two fights lined up. Probably not against gomez, but MAYBE the cintron/margo winner.
