Man, I remember it like it was last month. Great fight. I kept waiting for Little Red to starch him but never happened.
WOW!! I had never seen this fight. I am not familiar with Lopez but he looked like he threw with bad intentions everytime. Very heavy handed from what i saw. I always hear about his power. Whas it really that good? And Sanchez... God damn. what could have been.
He liked to drive fast and crashed his Mustang. I remember when it happened, very sad. He was just becoming a superstar and it was gone in a flash
Lopez was a well respected tough champ with very good power. He was a great fighter to watch, as it was always an exciting scrap. He was my favorite at the time but retired after he lost to Sanchez the second time. After that, I started rooting for Sanchez in every fight. IMO Sanchez, even with a short career is one of the greatest ever. BTW I saw a video of Lopez recently and he looked and spoke great. He's a family man and life is good for Little Red.
Here's the amazing fight. Truly Sanchez is one of the greats of boxing. [yt]ZBD70ji56KM&feature=related[/yt] [yt]huvYI3G_Vvg&feature=related[/yt] [yt]jjxDLkHIHhU&feature=related[/yt] [yt]XGkL9YTOcPU&feature=related[/yt]
Here's a little clip of what usually happened when Little Red landed flush. It's also a great example of why he was one of the most exciting "TV Fighters" of all time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4c92j8nYjCQ
"It was only a short time later that Sanchez was fatally wounded in a car accident. His death tore a hole in the warrior’s flag that will never be—and should never be—filled. Cut down in his young prime—it is hard to say what thrills were stolen from the history of boxing with Salvador’s passing. It is easy to speculate what great matches might have come with Gomez, Nelson, and Briton Pat Cowdell who all hotly-desired returns. This content is protected Any discussion of Sanchez can lead to an endlessness of sorrowful speculation as to how great the loss truly was. It was great, that is certain. So remember Salvador Sanchez for that which he did, not what he might have done, and be grateful that such a brave and extraordinary man was able to streak across the floor of the arena like an errant comet before disappearing without warning into the vastness of the great beyond." http://www.eastsideboxing.com/news.php?p=5353&more=1 What do you think guys? can sal change the history?
Sanchez was one for the ages... Who knows how much noise he could have made in his career. We lost him way too young. I remeber going into the Gomez fight, the big question was `how would he deal with Gomez` power? Then Sanchez goes out, taking it to Gomez and drops him hard in the first round. This was no `flash` knockdown. He sent a message right off the bat to Gomez. What a brutal war. And what a mess he made out of Gomez` face!!!
