First fight: Clint Coronel vs. Carlos Musquez, light middleweights

 

Round 1

Coronel is landing high hooks while crossing his right arm up across his face and draped over his left shoulder, almost blinding himself. He is clearly the stronger man, backing Musquez up with these blind hooks and some slapping overhand rights. Musquez is a little chunky in the middle. Musquez slaps with both hands while backing up. Coronel grinds him into the ropes, pushing him back with his elbows and the top of his head. Coronel just out-muscling Musquez, across the ring. Body punches inside by Coronel. Musquez keeps slapping while getting backed up, looking really bad. Hard, loudly crunching body blows being landed by Coronel. Musquez finally mounts a bit of serious offense as he fights off the ropes with a pair of hooks and an overhand right.

10-9 Coronel

 

Round 2

Coronel jabs and hooks off the jab, landing without even needing to come forward and crowd Musquez as he did in the first. Musquez tries to catch him with long rights and lefts but has very little punching technique and is basically just flapping his arms in Coronel's general direction. Musquez starts softly hooking the air while backing away. Coronel leans into Musquez to drive him back, blocking some slaps and throwing body punches. Jab to the gut followed by a right cross upstairs by Coronel.. Musquez tries to double hook his way off the ropes. They trade inside and Coronel lands a nice uppercut to the chin. Musquez ducks down and Coronel whacks him across the back of the head with a cuffing right. Musquez throws a quick hook out of a break and Coronel walks right through it. A series of hard right hands by Coronel, mostly clubbing down on the top of Musquez's head.

Round 3

Hard body shots by Coronel coming forward. Clubbing left hook to the ear. Musquez is just getting clobbered and beat up at short range. Musquez tries to catch Coronel by punching through his shots but having little effect and still getting hit hard, and more often when he opens up. Musquez lands a couple of slaps to the face and then a right to the body during an exchange, where Coronel mostly focuses on the body. Clubbing right hand smashes down across the face by Coronel. Musquez tries to load up a big lead right for Coronel to walk into but lands it on his shoulder. Coronel backs him into a corner and lands a hard right to the kidney as Musquez turns into him. Coronel ducks down under some jabs and tries to get inside, and misses a big overhand right.

30-27

 

Round 4

Musquez is breathing heavily, and ad******g his trunks as they slide down his thighs. Coronel keeps coming forward and leaning his head off to one side, which is enough to slip all of Musquez's slaps and get him in body punching range. Musquez is on the ropes. Coronel keeps working his arms in short, brisk motions. Musquez getting hit a lot. Coronel has lost some steam, though. Everything is still a power punch, just not with the same snap. Musquez for his part is trying to turn his left shoulder in to absorb some of the headshots, and is throwing upper-hooks as he backs up. Double jab by Musquez as he gets some separation. Coronel throws a big left hook at the face of Musquez but has it blocked. Coronell backs him to the ropes with a 1-2 and lands a blood-pissing left hook to the body. Musquez slaps away as he is backed to the ropes by body punches.

That was almost a Musquez round but not quite.

 

It's only a 90 minute show altogether, and I'm fast forwarding through the commercials (ie between rounds and between fights), so...pretty soon.:good

 

Round 5

Coronel is taking the round to recuperate a bit after expending lots of energy so far. He is still comfortably outboxing the light-slapping Musquez from outside, head-slipping jabs and getting his power punches off first. Coronel comes forward bending over with his face parallel to the ground, just hanging over as though in a yoga (or vomiting) pose. That's all it takes to get inside on Musquez, who is pitifully bad but to his credit still in there. Coronel continues to bruise his body.

Round 6

Coronel comes forward and starts working the overhand right a bit more, and absolutely smacks the living **** out of Musquez with it as he backs him into the ropes. High-reaching left hooks out of that blind guard by Coronel. Musquez keeps slapping and tries a few shoeshine combos down the stretch but is constantly backed up and outpunched.

60-54 Coronel

 

Coronel won a decision. I didn't bother slowing the fast forward down to hear the scores; does anyone mind?
