Chris Mannix‏@ChrisMannixSI On NBC's #AdamekCunningham ratings: At 6 pm, right before the broadcast ended, the ratings registered 3.2 million viewers. Huge. The previous number of 1.8 million blew it out of the water for that time slot, but with this boxing actually pulled primetime numbers in a weaker timeslot on one of the worst days for TV using two fighters no one heard of with hardly any promotion behind them.
Excellent news :good I hope the **** finish doesn't affect the perception of boxing, and instead, fans focus on how good the fight was.
I actually dreamed of the day boxing might start getting close to Klitschko numbers in the US. If this is what two lower unknown fighters can pull just imagine what a real draw could do.
adamek has a huge polish immigrant following here in the U.S just a bunch of pollacks happy that they dont need to pay for the fight
Boxing can still, and in the futre will once again be big in America imo. Just needs the right guys to come along in and out of the ropes.
Thats awesome n great news, but that also had bad judging (im not here to argue it, doesnt matter what I think, go to any article on the fight that allows comments and its overflowing with negativity over the decision) Still though, great to hear of such a great turnout. Ratings is what matter. However, things like shady judging are exactly the type of stuff that turn people away.
Imo Boxing has been in an upswing in the last few years, for a variety of reasons. If boxing can keep from being its own worst enemy, I see big 2013 and 2014's ahead. Boxing is doing just fine, and that feels great to say.
What was with NBC cutting off before the interviews? Were they so disgusted with the decision and decided not to bother, or just the programme overrunning?
Agreed, mate :good I think Showtime stepping up has helped. The more competition between Showtime and HBO, the better, I think. A while ago, all the biggest fights would be on HBO whereas Showtime would only show cards that were good for serious boxing fans. It's good that both networks are competitive now. In my opinion, the next big hurdle is making sure all the promoters are willing to match their fighters with each other. There are some great fights out there which should be made, but they aren't too likely because of promotional differences. I'm hoping that changes a bit this year because the sport would benefit greatly.
