3-fight option is cornerstone of the Kessler-Palle fall-out.

The Kessler vs. Palle feud is drawing big headlines in Denmark today. From various sources I think the issue is a three fight option and MONEY.

    3-fight option:
On the advice of his manager Bettina Palle, Kessler signed a contract to fight then-mandatory Danilo Haussler. The contract included a 3-fight option for Bettinas father Mogens to arrange for Mikkel Kessler

    .

Kessler's side states that the 3 fights was Haussler (done), Larsen (cancelled) and Perdomo (mandatory to be fought this summer).

Team Palle says that none of the 3 options has been accomodated.

    MONEY:
Kessler's side states that Palle ows Mikkel money from the scandinavian PPV revenue generated from the Calzaghe fight.

Team Palle says that Kessler should only receive his purse.

Untill today only Palle has made public comments in the press. Today Kessler came out stating his side of the story because he felt Palle made him look greedy and a chicken.

Still a lot of pieces of the fall-out likely kept beyond the public eye.

I understand that there are principles and all that ****, but from a purely practical viewpoint you would think that:

    a) Kessler might as well just fight the three fights, with the crap opponents that Palle has been feeding him, he could probably just get them out the road quicker than the court case.
You wouldn't think Palle could come out with any more than 3 more fights, especially if it's in the public domain now.

    and/or

    b) Palle may as well try and get Kessler some big fights.......It's a pretty safe bet kessler won't sign another contract with him, so he might as well cash in with some big names while he can.

Doesn't make any sense, especially on Palle's part.

I wonder what the rationale is for Palle saying the Haussler fight didn't happen. From what I understand, Palle is a power freak, so it's possible Kessler will be kept in the basement for years if he can't get out of the contract. Are the newspaper headlines favoring one side over the other?

Palle has tried making fights with Hopkins, RJJ, Dawson, Taylor, Winky, CalzagheII to no avail. He couldn't even get a fight signed with Kessler's countryman Mads Larsen.

In principle I agree with part a of your post. You sign a contract=You honour it. I believe there is a time-frame attached as well so it's 3 fights before the february 2010.

In any event Kessler might lose a year of his prime which is the real tragedy in this case.

I know damn well this is a lie. Palle publically stated he wasn't interested in matching Kessler with Dawson. I'm not sure about the other names that you mentioned.

The big problem for Kessler is that Palle says the options don't include mandatory defenses.

It's a question of the options being in place before or after Haussler which is anybodys guess.

The press is neutral with perhaps a little fav. towards Kessler. Still it's boxing in Denmark in general and Mikkel Kessler in particular who pays the price of this.

Palles contract expires in february next year as far as I know.

    No it's the truth.

Dawson called out Kessler to a fight at 175. Team Kessler made a counteroffer for a fight at a catchweight. Dawson didn't want that despite he being the one who called out the smaller man.

Instead Dawson signed for a useless rematch with Tarver thereby getting Tarver's rematch clause done with.

    I don't believe that bull**** for one minute. Here's an excerpt from an article from another site;

“His dream fight is the rematch with Calzaghe but he wants to fight anybody, the big names. If he can’t fight Calzaghe, he can fight Hopkins.” Asked about the possibility of IBF Light Heavyweight titlist Chad Dawson (27-0, 17 KO), Palle made points about Dawson needing more exposure before such a bout could be realistic.

Palle is also on record as saying that Dawson is basically a Cruiserweight and that he's not interested in making that fight. Now why the hell would he try to make a fight between Kessler and Dawson below 175 when he claims that Dawson is really a Cruiserweight?

It's bad or Kessler, but not quite as bad as first reports seemed to suggest.

Apart from the winner of Froch-Taylor there don't seem to be a lot of big fights at SMW or Kessler right now. Unless he would be prepared to give up his belt and change weight, or someone like AA or Pavlik goes up to SMW, I don't really see any big fights for him until late this year, whoever is promoting him.

That is correct. Palle stated that dawson was a cruiserweight which I made a thread about on another site. Still the facts are that Team Kessler countered Dawson's offer with a catchweight proposal which was printed on Kessler's american agent's site. It's also mentioned in Kessler's new-year open letter here:

AA is likely moving up this summer Pavlik or not. So a euro-megafight might be around the corner. There's also Bute and to a lesser degree Miranda.
