I'm a boxing fan first, and fans of particular fighters second. As we know at this point in time, Floyd Mayweather is retired. If he never fought again, he'd be considered an ATG and one of the best ever at junior lightweight.

Talent-wise not many come close but his resume may need 3 more fights to be mentioned in the same breathe as the Duran's, Leonard's, and Chavez' of the lower weight class fighters.

In my opinion to silence his critics he has to face Sugar Shane Mosley, Antonio Margarito, and Miguel Cotto. All these fights are winnable fights and he could cash out in all three. Might not be in the ODLH stratosphere but Money talks. If he beat all three in reasonably convincing fashion, which I believe he could, all his critics will be silenced and there will be nothing else he could do to enhance his legacy. If he never fought again I couldnt say the same. These matches will hinge on his legacy when people discuss if he belongs among the All-time greats.

    How do you guys feel???

i still think miguel cotto gives him the toughest fight but right now margarito is more deserving.

if he beats shane mosley now people would discredit that win although i think it would be a good fight and shane mosley isn't shot just yet

but if he beats mosley, margo and cotto he will be on the class of ray leonard and roberto duran.

I think Paul Williams would be tougher for Floyd than Margarito and Cotto.

i dont think so, paul williams is very amateurish and all over the place, floyd would break him down with body shots.

swap mosely for williams and i would agree, unfortunatly can't see it happening, thought he may came back for cotto next year but he won't now, and he won't come back to fight margo, even though i think he would win its risky for not the sort of money floyd would want

He just needs to fight any of the current top 5 welterweights and people will stop criticizing. Margarito, Cotto, Williams, Mosley, Clottey... any mix of 3 and he's fine.

Paul Williams height and length is the only thing that would keep him in the fight. Paul Williams never really impressed me, and at this point in Mayweathers career, fighting a Paul Williams or Carlos Quintana type fighter would just be a waste of time. It wouldnt do anything to enhance his legacy.

A fight with he and Mosley is long overdue and should have happened in several times but never materialized. Margarito is the number one Welterweight since his retirement, and Miguel Cotto is the guy who stylistically would cause him the most trouble.

You are right at times he fights very raw, but I think his physical assets would be what makes the fight difficult. I think it would be nice to see how Floyd would get inside, assuming that the Williams of the last fight shows up using the jab.

    In all honesty after Sat.
Mayweather has blown any chance of being in talks as an ATG.
he let his biggest win get away in Cotto, he will never get his fight
    Vs. an undefeated prime fighter.

Margarito & Williams already have an

And Berto is nowhere near ready for a showdown, + Money would never fight him.

    2 issues:

    1) how is Margarito the #1 WW when Paul has a win in the h2h matchup
    2) What problems style-wise does Cotto present? He has poor defense and a weak chin, what about him makes you think he could be Floyd?

I agree with you.... beating an undefeated Cotto would've done alot more to his resume than a Margarito, or Williams.

    1) Paul Williams has only has two big wins in his career, a close fight to Margarito and is 1-1 with good, but not great Quintana. Other than that he hasnt done much, Whereas Margarito just beat the number one contender at welterweight in Cotto, Beat Kermit Cintron twice, Joshua Clottey, Antonio Diaz, Andrew Lewis, and Sebastian Lujan. Margarito is more deserving and has been a top contender at 147 for near a decade whereas Williams has just got there.

    2) Stylewise, Cotto has a the educated pressure, good jab, and handspeed and strength to give Mayweather problems. If Cotto had a weak chin do you think he would have made it to the 11th round look at the kids face, he took his beating like a man. Also Cotto is more skilled than Margarito and Cotto.

Yeah, but the point is to leave no doubt as to who is the number 1 guy in the division. Floyd has a good resume as it is, but cleaning out 147 will cement his legacy in my eyes.

Margarito, Cotto, Mosley....u don't think that streak looks good?

Mayweather called out Mosley at 130, 135, and 140. This fight should have happened a long time ago.
