As far as i know it was never seriously talked about at the time you mention. TBH Sanchez probably missed the 135 boat to Arguello anyway.

Arguello's last fight at 130 was 2 months before Sanchez had even won the Lopez rematch, so it was never ever going to happen at 130. Many thought the first Lopez fight was a bit lucky, and he had come thru from obscurity. There was no demand.

Sometimes i think many seem to forget just how great Arguello was. He was also the bigger natural man and i find it hard to see Sanchez beating him no matter how well he transitioned to higher divisions. He'd be a good show of beating Alexis at 126, but that weight and time was nothing close to peak Arguello. Arguello's peak was at 130, and he was still a great fighter at 135.

Right. And on top of that, Leonard pretty much has an iron chin at 147, given that he fought peak versions of Hearns and Duran without suffering a knockdown, as well as a bigger hard hitting man in Hagler.

In order to win, Pryor would have to either outbox Leonard or by knocking him down several times. I don't know which is more unlikely. The only way he could outbox him is by overwhelming him, but that didn't even work for more than a few rounds against Arguello, who is naturally at 126lbs. Hell, even Duran just barely pulled it off, and that was when Leonard obliged to fight Roberto's fight.

Indeed. I was just looking at an old mag yesty and Curry and Pryor were thought to be fighting in the near future. Curry was picked by 4th round stoppage and this was just before he'd bashed McCrory and made his quantum leap in expectations.

I remember back in the day a couple of fantasy fight articles always picked Leonard by stoppage around 3 or 4 in a wild fight. Leonard had the power to hurt him, and there were few better finishers than Leonard. As well i don't think Pryor would have fought as good as some if he did happen to get stunned bad.

Pryor was stunned bad by Arguello's right hand, arguably one of the best in history, andw ent right abck at it.

Arguello's power was just as good at 140 as well, watch his destruction of Kevin Rooney at the weight. Pryor was tough as Hell, but I think Leonard might take the decision. However, if like Duran Leonard got embroiled in Pryor's fight, the Hawk might very well take it.

As I said in another thread destroying Kevin Rooney should not be used as an indication of ones power at the weight.

But Arguello still carried some sting up..no doubt about that.

Fair enough, but that punch he threw against Rooney would not have made that sound had it not had a huge amount of power!

It was brutal..no doubt about it. Rooney had no idea what was going on, looked like he went into a seizure after the bout was waved off, from the way his eyes were flickering.

What makes you think he was stunned badly by that punch?

But comparing the danger of Arguello to SRL is like a crack in the bedroom wall to the grand canyon in this one. Leonard is immensely bigger and incomparably faster. If Leonard shook him and he went right back in it's gonna be over quickly.

The fact that his head snapped right back and he stuopped momentarily.

He said himself 'i thought h'd knocked my head off....but that was fine I ate that punch'---source, legendary nights documentary

    Sorry..what are you referring to?

My remark about Rooney looking like he was having a seizure?

Cause I was serious..I vividly remember that, Im pretty sure it happened that way. He gets his mouthguard taken out and then lays back and the camera zooms on his face. You see his eyes roll back and him blinking heaps.

I remember his bald Jason Statham looking head.

I remember the punch vaguely, did he wobble or stagger?
