3 Heavywieghts who can possibly beat Wlad

From what I've seen of Chapman, he's slow, not really too powerful, and has poor form. His opposition has been extremely poor on a world scale. I strongly expect he would be stomped.

I would give Mollo a slight chance, because he's a very fast starter and a murderous puncher- he would have to try and catch Wlad cold. However, he's inexperienced, his chin is questionable, his defense is questionable, and his stamina is extremely questionable. Odds are overwhelming Wlad is a little bit wary for the first two rounds(as Mollo is a beast in the first two rounds, but seems to become utterly harmless after that), then turns up the heat and stops Mollo within six.

Mesi has the best chance of the three, though still not very good. He, like Mollo, is a fast starter and a power puncher, but much more polished and experienced and doesn't become exhausted after two rounds of hurling haymakers. That said, his defense is flawed(in particular, I've noticed he tends to run into left hooks, which Wlad has a doozy of), he's faded late in his only two 10-round fights, and his chin is questionable, and he would be at a considerable height/reach disadvantage. I doubt he could stand up to a great deal of punishment from Wlad, or really outbox/win rounds from him over a long distance. He would have to either come out looking catch Wlad early or otherwise pressure him into a knockout. Odds are Wlad snipes him out in the first seven or eight rounds, though.

 

By the way, I think there are dozens of heavyweights who could possibly beat Wlad, but none who would have better than, say, a one-in-four chance of doing it.

 

I never thought Peter, Brock, Austin and an old Byrd/Brewster were elite fighters and anyone with any sense wouldn't. People that thought Byrd/Brock/Austin/Brewster had a chance against Wlad don't follow HW boxing well. I thought Sam Peter, even as one dimensional and technically horrible as he was, had a chance to knock him out and he almost did. Povetkin is a much bigger threat to Wlad than Peter and would be Wlad's best win of his career. He has never beat a fighter like him and he never will. I'm not gonna argue about this because I don't like it when people on here talk about a prospect beating a top champion of a division a long time before the match could even happen.. the only reason why I make these posts is so later when Klitschko gets knocked out by Povetkin I can say I told you so.

Oh, and the hype WOULD be ridiculous. If Povetkin pulled off the upset
and knocked out Wlad, it would be a very big deal and people would jump on his hype train like crazy. After Pavlik KO'ed Taylor (A much worse fighter than Wlad), he got pretty ridiculous hype, but this would just be insane, especially since it would be the birth of a new HW star.. something that hasn't happened in a long time.

 

I also could alledge to have used sarcasm concerning the K bros and the pix which were posted by others but even if I hadn't, they are showbiz figures and I am not... Vitaly will never fight Wladimir not only because they are brothers but cause their training facilities have been/are common and that ultimately poisons a match-up, remember Norton, Frazier and Futch? But the main reason is what is often known as blood is thicker than water, Mayweather Sr and Floyd being the last example of it... So the suggestion that Vitaly would possibly beat Wlad doesn't come into play. The pix are not that homo like ( Nigel Benn posed for Playgirl some years ago but not with someone else) but in case they r perceived as such ( gay), both K bros should have been aware when they posed nude and together... I am not judgemental but only wanted to point out that you called another member a dork, a dweeb and a troll, sarcastically or not, and if that doesn't bother me at all, it may put you in hazzard with ESB and I wish it not to happen... Btw, we all have to take care of our responsibilities starting monday morning or any other day but that doesn't avoid us to give our contribution here... A big mouth doesn't beat anyone... you can't compare to fighters of the past. Just like with all sports athletes today are bigger, stronger, and better.

 

Tyson couldn't beat Lewis, how would he beat Wlad? I know, there's always the lucky punch.

 

Wlad is clearly the top heavywheight out there, but he has a suspect chin and relies a little too much on this superior height/lenght to dominate opponents.

Considering this I'd say, IMO:
Valuev has about 20% chances of beating him for his size.
Ibragimov has about 20% chances of beating him for being left handed and durable.
Povetkin(if he emerges out of the tournament improved and more experienced) has about 20% chances for his power and explosiveness.
Chagaev has about 10% chances for his all around skills.
Virchis/Peter/Tua/Mesi have close to 10% chances landing a big punch before Wlad hurt them beyound repair.
Thompson/Dimitrenko have about 10% chances because they can match Wlad's size, but only if they land a few big hits to hurt Wlad and slow him down before he finishes them off.

 

Ali wasn't small compared to Wlad. He was a pretty big guy and he'd beat Wlad by decision easily. If you don't think that's true, please go do something you know more about.

 

For the first time and I hope not the last, BoxingGuru strikes me his out-spoken ways and with what should be a headliner in this Forum - Please don't embarass yourself claiming your man is the Greatest - if half of the board believes Wlad would beat Ali then nothing should be taken serious around here...

Exactly. Ali was 6 feet 3 inches and had an 80 reach and weighed in the upwards of 225 pounds when he was fighting and beating everyone.

Wlad is 6 feet 6 inches with an 81 inch reach and weighs 245 on average.

So big deal, Wlad was 3 inches taller, and weighed 20-25 pounds more and had a 1" reach advantage.

Ali did the following better than Wlad.

-Better Jab (not stronger, better.)
-Better Footwork
-Better Stamina
-Better Chin
-More Heart


Wlad loses to Ali by UD if Ali is in his prime. Wlad only beats a faded Ali of the late 70's.
