By changing of the guard do you mean when the man got beaten by anyone or do you mean when someone took the belt and took over the division?

    Good post though.

nice post, although those guys won their titles in the ring, 3G won one title in the ring vs lemmy, so I am not sure its more of a handover for 3G.

I was just thinking of the last three long reigning dominant middleweights and how their reigns ended with a controversial decision, or two. Also, while I was looking up the scorecards I saw a similar recurring detail that I hadn't noticed before.

CST, Rorschach, Sugar 88, and Bustajay were talking about Hagler/Leonard and I thought "Wow, that had a 118-110 score too." But it was a common name that really popped out at me. So I clicked over to the Hopkins fiasco and there it was again. The guy's like a bad penny. He keeps turning up, especially at Canelo fights. He's judged 7 of Canelo's last 10. You wonder where Canelo's getting these gifts?

To quote myself from a year ago "Dave Moretti is a ****ing disgrace and shouldn't ever judge a boxing match again. He had Pacquiao vs Vargas almost even, gave Cotto no credit in his fight against Canelo, gave Berto too much credit against Mayweather, scored May/Pac 118-110, scored Pac/Marquez 3 for Pac, scored Canelo/Lara for Canelo, and heavily favored Mayweather in his first fight with Maidana. That is strike seven for this vato. In Mexican baseball that means you're out!"

I meant the long reigning champ was dethroned and it was the end of an era in middleweight history. I can't think of many times that a champ got beaten and then won the title back. Before Hagler it was Monzon who nobody beat. But I guess Benvenuti, Griffith, and Tiger bounced back from losses to reclaim the crown. And Robinson held it four or five times.

I guess I mean when they got beat, because Leonard didn't establish a new reign after he beat Hagler and Taylor didn't have one after he beat Hopkins. I'm slightly more optimistic for Canelo, since he's still pretty young. He might go two or three years on top.

Oh Okay I thought you did, yeah as much as I thought GGGs run could have been better it’s no doubt he was dominant for a long time.

I’m not sure about Canelo I think all these guys can get beaten, it’s a dangerous time to be in MW division, you have athletic, skilled, powerful fighters which we didn’t have an abundance of in the last 6-7 years that GGG was the man.
