Good insight...I fully agree. Not many people believe Arum is at fault, but he is the straw that stirs the drink for this fight to happen. Most are just busy calling each other "*****s" or "*******s" instead of really seeing the main problem.

    Assesment of May’s skills:
Best in the ‘bidness. No doubt. Definitely amongst the top 5 most talented fighters of the past two decades.

    Level of competition:
Top notch in his super featherweight days. Destined for greatness. But as a welterweight, he’s been very disappointing considering his talents. A fighter like Floyd should not be allowed to go into retirement when the division is at its hottest. After Hatton, he really should have stuck around to fight the Margaritos, Cottos, and Williams. Imagine how enhanced his legacy would have been if he stuck around for those guys? But no, instead, he takes time out and waits for the things to clear up. And then, he wastes two more years in keeping his nearest challenger at arms length.....

    Pacquiao fight:
The testing farce is/was his way of trying to control Pac. At the same time, he knew it would help delay things, and maybe Pac would lose a fight along the way and give him a reason to not bother with him. It’s also a good way of waiting for Pac to slow down. Due to his style and the physically-enduring fights he’s been having so far, there’s every bit the chance that May will get hold of him when he’s no longer at his best (which was in 2010, in my opinion).

What do you mean by that? Morales, J Toney, Calzaghe, Hatton:shock:, Marciano and JCC all had longer undefeated streaks than Floyd.

The same reason he started negotiating with Winky Wright and left him high dry. Shock value.

great defense and overall skilled!!! but if it were the 80's he would have ducked the whole welterweight division, ducked the whole welterweight division of the late 90's also!! mayweathers whole 147 campaign has been a joke!!! he never proved much while avoiding marg, cotto, 36yr old mosley, paul williams, paquiao and merchant.....why is there so many ****ing thread repititions like this constantly posted!!! maywitther would have never hanged banging it out with leonard, hearns, duran, hagler, chavez, sweet pea, prime dlh, trinidad, prime mosley or even quartey!!! nuff said!

I think the best thing Mayweather has going for him is his ability to formulate a new game plan during a fight and make adjustments.

Very good hand speed and mobility.

    Excellent counter punching and accuracy.

    Average power @ Welter.

Average chin (from what we've seen)

Off the top of my head I'd say the top 5 fighters have been (in no order):

    Chavez Sr.
    Sweet Pea
    ODLH
    Pacquaio
    RJJ/BHop

So, no. He doesn't make top 5 but he would make the top 10.

    Limited.

He only takes the fights he knows he can win and make money.

He's not interested in fighting the best available.

My first thought is that he's handled it wrong. Instead of insisting that he is the face of boxing... everyone except him clearly knows he isn't... he could have handled it differently.

Second thought is, no fighter is a sports commission, no matter how popular or talented they are.

Third, I don't know who is ducking who, but I do know that Floyd will never hear the end of not fighting Pacquaio.

On the other hand, Manny won't be judged on the Floyd fight not happening because he's accomplished so much more than Floyd, everyone (except Floyd & *****s) see Floyd as the one keeping the fight from happening.

    1. What is your assessment of Mayweather, Jr talent and skills? Is he one of the top 5 fighters of the last two decades (90's and 00's)?
I think FMJ is one of the most skilled fighters of all time. His work ethic is incredible, and yes, he is one of the top 5 fighters of the last two decades.

    2. How would you rate his level of competition?
So-so. There are of handful of guys he could have fought, but he isn't as bad a ducker as people make him out to be,

    3. What are your thoughts on the idea that he does not want to fight Pacquaio? The random drug test? The vacation?
I think he sees something in Pacquiao that troubles him, and makes him question if he could win that fight. I think getting robbed by judges is a bigger issue for Floyd than drug testing.
