Fans don't give a **** about the multiple titles, casual fans don't atleast... hardcore fans like to ***** too much. They aren't going "Wow, I'd dig boxing if not for not knowing who the WBO champ is, and who the IBF champ is"... they don't give a ****.. they see a title and say "he must be good!". You're kidding yourself if you think it's an issue. Boxing is popular.. some of the recent PPV numbers have proved it. Is it on the news all the time? No. It's because there isn't a George Foreman (the fat version was a hit), Mike Tyson, or SRL out there right now who get that kind of attention. Floyd just doesn't crossover enough, and Oscar for as big as he is, honestly doesn't crossover past the hispanic population, he's not huge in white or black America. The reports of Boxing's demise are way premature.
I sound like a DLH frustrated fan? Mate you have got no friggin idea... Im an Aussie who couldnt give two shits about Oscar i was going for Forbes in the last fight i wanted him to pull it off... Other than that ridiculous **** you said i agree DLH isnt helping the sport and he is not world class anymore but he knows because of his name he can fight anyone and they will agree... But dont call me a frustrated DLH fan and tell me to "deal with it" when you dont know what your going on about... and btw DLH lost all those fights are you off your head???? Poll ESB he got ripped off against Tito and the 2nd time with Shane and yea Sturm did get ripped off we all know that and it was bad i know i know...
In a short period of time MMA/UFC has replaced boxing as the most popular one on one competitive sport. Most of the reasons that have been stated are good ones. Obviously there was enough rot to spoil the product. Now if the sport is to turnaround there must be a wholesale and all out broad based effort to make changes. With money to be made by the people currently in position to make those changes it will be hard to do. As in most things its not about the substance its about the money.
There are to many belts!!!!!!!!! For Example... I tell my my friends about Cotto [being a Cotto fan] and how he is the WBA ww Champ, so they immediatly ask "isn't Floyd Mayweather the champ." I then have to explain that there are 5 major titles and they get all confused, they don't have an idea on who's the best, etc. There should be 1 major championship in each weight class
Yep, look at Mayrunner he won't even fight a top ten welter but is the "champ" what a joke, I find my self watching more and more MMA. Real fights no BS and the winner is the champion!
i just graduated this week so i know what you talking about and its crazy because we slap box in those hallways every day. and its funny because when a fight broke out or even argument about to lead to a fight like 50 kids would run and damn there jump over u to see whats happening. i guess we luv controversy but when comes to something like doing boxing they can't cope with it. to much physical and mental work. the running part alone get em. my generation is not built like previous generations we lazy.boxing for 12 rounds thats 36 min of fighting with 12 min of break time in between and i might have cut or broken nose. they rather try a sport less demanding on the body and where you can take a real break and might not get knockout. and the ones that try there hands at boxing because they can fight out side the ring soon realize that its a different kind of fighting inside the ring.those type never last to long in the sport.
:good Right on!!!!! While most sports strive to have the best compete, not so in boxing....most of the time at least. As boxing fans we need to see change that bring about the best possibly fights. How its done in practical terms is a huge topic well worth a thousand threads I suppose. Having said that, boxing is a popular sport when it do provide the best fights.
I would also add that your better african american and athletes (white also) live in the suburbs where there are no boxing gyms. Just karate schools. If you look at scholarships for football and basketball most are given to suburban school kids because: grades, better training, they have gone to more camps, and they have a better support system ( families together, the lack of gangs and discipline
I'm glad you understand what I'm talking about. I'm even more happy that someone your age is on a boxing website. Just continue to enjoy the sport and bring in new fans.
