Like i said - i think he would SURPRISE on the back foot, becausethats the only chance he has, albeit an outside 1. Mayweather is a great fighter, it cant be denied.
How much actual footage of SRR is available? I've seen quite a bit of Leonard and love his style and skills. All I've seen of SRR is a bit of YouTube footage (looks awesome throwing the left hook)?
orite, he still is at 147 for a fight with mayweather, he could lose 7 pounds and become undisputed jr welterweight champ or put on 7 pounds and become undisputed light middle champ.
He'd lose quite handily to Spinks and Forrest at 154(as well as guys like Dzindziruk and probably Simms), and he's a bit too far gone to be dropping weight to fight at 140 at this stage. He's been molded into a true WW over his stay there.
Leonard wasnt better at jabbing than Robinson imo. Robinson could win shutout snoozefests with that punch. Leonard may be a smoother mover while circling, but Robinson's footwork when on the attack is unparalelled imo. In and out for him was a great defense in itself.
Robinson's jab was a bit too compact for me, it wasn't as good a long range weapon as Leonard's IMO. But I know what you mean about his in and out attack on the offensive.
Haha! I watched Leonard-Hagler BTW and scored it, had a draw. Do you remember what you had Pea?? Just curious!
Hats off to you Pea. I have repeated mentioned this many times on past threads. Mosley's handspeed was noticeably quicker in his early welterweight days than it was at lightweight. Against Rivera, Wise, De La Hoya, and Taylor his handspeed was maybe quicker than Leonard's at welterweight. If anyone wants to dispute this then view Mosley's title shot against Holliday at 135lbs then view his fight with Rivera right after it and you'll be shocked. IMO the difference in speed aint even up for debate. Mosley was very quick at lightweight, but even quicker at welterweight. Why? Probably because he struggled to make lightweight. Badly as well It must be said. Mosley has admitted that when he was a lightweight he was naturally a welterweight. Fighters who struggle badly with the scales aint as quick for obvious reasons.
I haven't watched the fight in a very long time, but I remember the one time I scored it giving it to Leonard clearly. I thought he stole most of the close rounds. I'd probably see it differently if I scored it now, as I usually have slightly different opinions on fights after repeated viewings.
His single shots were maybe quicker, but his combinations, while very fast, weren't as fluid as Leonard's, nor as accurate. Shane was always a bit wild. A guy like Meldrick Taylor has slightly quicker combos, but not as much power and body behind them as Shane.
Yea , i thought it was very close and i remember scoring rounds and then thinking- 'was i right on that 1?', but the last thing i wanted to do was re-watch rounds in a fight that close!
