Usyk fans (Aj fans) worried this fight actually happens Fury looks in shape and focused. He has a history of putting on a stinker, then following it with a great performance Fury 8-4 or a late stoppage
Gawd I hope not.... Notwithstanding rumors about Opetaia-Briedis dropping off, they seem to be boasting a pretty big undercard now, and they have a UK PPV deal with TNT. As noted on this thread, the one big wrinkle afaik seems to be lack of a US PPV distributor. I'm guessing one or more parties is holding out for maximum $$$ -- because we know lots of $$$ had to be fronted to make this fight finally happen -- and with DAZN wrestling with much-publicized financial challenges, ESPN seeking sports leagues to invest in order to boost their finances, and Showtime PPV presumably out of the boxing biz, that's getting to be a tuffer putt here Stateside. Someone in the Fury and/or Usyk camps, and/or in Riyadh, may have to bend on their "ask" to get a US PPV deal done.....
This is not a very well thought out post, Usyk and especially Fury are the exact kind of fighters that would be marketed by the media in the UK and the US. In Britain, Fury has been and is still a massive name. The lack of promotion is down to the Saudis, this fight is massive and in some ways sells itself.
I´m seeng Opetaia- Breidis back on BoxRec as of now. And given that this fight is taking place in the afternoon/early evening in the US and features two Euro fighters who have both fought a few times in the US but neither is really a household name there, I don´t think there's much ground for making this a PPV fight for the US market, sales would be appalling. I think this one will end up on regular DAZN or in ESPN+, nothing seems to suggest that there is a big enough PPV market for this one in the US.
It was the same for the last card with AJ and Wilder on it. Saudis aren't fussed if it sells as this isn't a money making venture for them.
This doesn't make any sense, given that NFL is the most conservative of the three American sports and the most popular by far. Fights aren't popular in the U.S. unless there's an American connection. That's why Pacquaio moved to the U.S. and many others over the years. These days the top guys don't actually need America and especially now that Saudi is hosting these huge events. It's another knife to the heart of U.S. boxing, but it's also largely self inflicted. Just look at the garbage PBC is putting on Amazon PPV. Can't blame anyone for turning away.
This fight is mistress vs misery so not much to advertise . Look that usyk vs dubois was also a 'non event'
They'll stick in on ESPN, no way ESPN invested all that money in Fury and just walk away from the undisputed fight. Saying that, apart from this being for undisputed I'm struggling to care about the undercard. Be interesting to see how they try to price this. If they try to use undisputed to raise the PPV price...
