Exactly. 34 is pretty old in boxing. Yeah, Oscar destroyed Mayorga his last time out int he ring, but he was off for a year. How much can you really expect from a 34 year old, inactive fighter?

 

Simply because Oscar was calling the shots and he was bringing more money to the table at the time.

 

i have a quick question since every one is saying that because oscar was 34 an off for almost a year when he fought floyd he was shot does that mean if pacquiao beats floyd he would have beat a shot floyd seeing as floyd will be 34 an also off for around a year by the time they fight just wondering an if thats the case how can pacquiao get any credit if he was to beat floyd????

 

Different fighters,Different career paths and different styles thats why you see fighters burned out in their twenties like Vargas for example and others who were still going strong in their late thirties like Hopkins,just like a 34 year old Oscar isnt the same as a 34 year old Floyd.

 

Yes, it's quite a conundrum. Yes, different fighters age differently. However, Oscar did look fantastic in the fight right before the Mayweather fight. Hoya also looked pretty good in the Hopkins fight before he got stopped. Somehow though, he was a shot, feeble 34 year old man by the time he fought Mayweather. Let's also not forget that Oscar didn't perform badly against Mayweather either. So what do we go by, age and activity or in ring performance? If we go by in ring performance, Oscar was still a pretty good fighter when he took on Mayweather. Ditto for Mayweather against Pac. If we go by age and activity, then just like Hoya, Mayweather is a past it, 34 year old, part time fighter.

1) the guy never fought OVER 140lbs in his entire career and he fought FMJ at 147LBS which was actually agreed at 145lbs.

2)Weight is overrated?! Really how come FMJ chose to pay the penalty instead of shedding the extra pounds?! Oh I see! It's FMJ's professionalism FMJ's standards

3) JMM's career all his fights were at 13olbs and below except two fights at 135lbs and he ped his weight class 2 levels higher.

JMM was OBVIOULSY BLOATED and some FMJ fans celebrate the win as if they beat the best version that JMM can offer.:rofl:rofl

If you are JMM fans they would say the best version of JMM is at 126 to 130lbs only BUT some of guys think that it's the same at beating BLOATED JMM at 147lbsatsch:smoke

i can agree with that because even as a floyd fan if pac was to win all the credit in the world to him but u cant use age a a factor for one fight then totally disregard it when its come to another in a similar situation i mean oscar though he was inactive was coming off a good win in mayorga an in recent years the comparison between floyd an oscar late in his career is similar with there level of inactivity my whole thing is oscar is shot at 34 but floyd is n his prime at the same age or mosley is shot at 38 coming off a great win but hopkins is still good at 44 u cant pick an choose how u want to view a fighter based on bias which alot of ppl seem to do u know what i mean

 

Can you please point out to me where in my post I mentioned anything about Marquez? You're going on this whole tirade about Marquez, surely it would have to be in response to something I said about him. I don't believe I mentioned Marquez. Perhaps you could point it out for me.

 

So because Floyd is 33, has fought 2x in the past 3 years, will be 34 in February, if he doesn't get his ass in the ring now or have at least one fight prior to the proposed matchup next year, he is at a huge disadvantage?

I did not mention that you mentioned JMM. I gave the example about the weight issue which you mentioned is not an issue. it is an issue that is why is thoroughly explained in my thread

 

This probably went over your head, but I was being facetious when I said weight is meaningless. Clearly you would have to think that weight is meaningless if you discredit Mayweather's win over Hoya due to Hoya's age and inactivity and completely ignore the fact that Mayweather went up in weight and was a at a 10+ lb. weight disadvantage. That's where I was getting at with that post.

I gave Cotto **** for continuously winning vacant titles. He finally beat a reigning champ though, so props to him.

If a 34 year old Oscar was shot at his natural weight, was does that make an even older, drained Oscar that Pacquiao fought?
