Duran does'nt have to come out directly and say "I quit because I was in poor shape!" Duran indirectly say's that all the time and so does Leonard. Leonard has alway been boastful for getting Duran to sign for an immediate rematch right away and he's always been boastful in saying that the sooner the fight be made the poorer Duran's shape would be. Dont know what the hell Leonard is crying about now saying he feels cheated by no mas. Let me inform you Raymundo Leonard. Duran lives a happy joyful life. You dont live that type of existence because of your own doings. Dont go blaming Roberto Duran, you've cheated yourself is why you feel cheated.
Duran quit because he was pissed off and frustrated by Leonards clowning and he just lost his mind for 30 seconds. Anybody who ever saw him fight knows there is no coward in Duran, it was just his way of saying **** off you clown to Leonard. You could see he regretted it almost as soon as it happened but there was no taking it back. I forgave him a long time ago.
Duran quit to avoid further punishment and the possibility of being stopped later on. It really is that simple and doesn't need any thought-out analysis on the matter. He acknowledged this in an interview three years later, but people have conveniently ignored this for whatever reason to drag this thing out.
Duran's weird, rabid fans would prefer to ignore details like this. The notion that Duran had a longer period in which to prepare for a rematch than he had for the first fight doesn't quite fit into the 'Duran ballooned up to 300 pounds and only had six weeks to train' story.
I think it was far more entertaining to see Norris, and Camacho ridicule Leonard personally, particularly because he and his silly little fanboys thought he was so great, still do in fact. To the point that some of the ******s still think the fool warrants top ten ATG status. Still there are plenty of windows for them to lick.
Yeah, but none of that is as funny as seeing Leonard laying on the ropes like a helpless wino as Camacho uses him for target practice, until Cortez saves his ass. Something Hector couldn't do to the older Duran in 2 attempts.
Is that the same Duran that was knocked into next week by a man that couldn't do the same to Leonard after 26 rounds??
Then you must have really got off when Ali got hammered by Holmes or Louis by Marciano ! That makes as much sense as watching an old SRL get stopped... Was there a point to your story ??
Fighters get old, take no pleasure in watching a once great fighter get beaten up way past his prime. It proves nothing.
Yeah. Neither Hearns, or Duran claimed to be the best ever, nor did they have moronic fanboys claiming such. How about you, or the other Leonard window lickers? :rofl:rofl
Duran quitting was a bad thing no question about it but at the same time many fighters have done the same thing in a more phony way. Whether its Tyson biting somebody and using that as a way out. Sometimes you see fighters quit trying to win and just are content to go the distance ala David Tua. Duran was genuine good or bad. Not excusing his lack of common sense in preparing for the rematch that`s inexcusable. He was a veteran professional and he knew Leonard put up a tough scrap the first time.
It`s interesting that Duran didn`t quit after the 1st round of the Hearns fight. I`m fairly certain he knew what was coming in round 2.
