...or, Yuri Boy, Yory Boy, Yury Boy...there doesn't seem to be a clear consensus correct version - and the man himself is illiterate. This content is protected This content is protected Not sure what's crazier - that it's been three decades since this, or that Campas fought as recently as last year! (twice as long as Trinidad, whose campaign extended only another fourteen years - and most observers felt he'd far overstayed his welcome by the loss to RJJ
Great fight. I remember watching this one. So close at first. I thought Yori Boy might take him but Yori Boy never met a punch he wouldn't eat. If he had a defense, he would have gone on to do great things.
campas is one of those ridiculous punchers that rarely gets thrown in the conversations about ko artists. that little hook he dropped tito with was so tight it squeaked as he threw it. tito looked like they bounced a bat off his head. the ability to transfer energy with such little loss is natural. either by unusual bone mass, stability of joints, natural adjustments of balance to maximize leverage, or a combination of all those and more. the man hit like bare bone.
To be fair, Tito was not known to have an iron chin. However, it was good enough to get him through until he warmed up and landed his lethal left hook.
yeah, if it was a one off for campas you could attribute it all to titos stiffness early, but campas had laid waste to a lot of chins to get there. and you could see the waves travel through titos body as it collapsed. he felt that little hook, he wasnt just out of balance or position.
Tito was a great finisher, loved all his fights (expect against RJJ, he should never have done that).
A limited fighter in who mostly lost against world class talents although he was still a pretty good fighter in his own right. Campas did a great service for boxing by beating up POS Tony Ayala Jr to the point of making him quit. This content is protected Was also in a great fight against John Duddy. Yo, I used to study ancient Gecko-Roman Greek history and they used to have something called "The Felix" and it was a rectangular mass of infantpantrymen who would have spears and shields and ish and they would eff you way the flip up. That is what Trinidad was named after. He a warrior since birth.
