...or, Yuri Boy, Yory Boy, Yury Boy...there doesn't seem to be a clear consensus correct version - and the man himself is illiterate. This content is protected This content is protected Not sure what's crazier - that it's been three decades since this, or that Campas fought as recently as last year! (twice as long as Trinidad, whose campaign extended only another fourteen years - and most observers felt he'd far overstayed his welcome by the loss to RJJ
What a great fight. Vintage Mexico vs PR showdown. Campas came into this fight with a record of 56-0, 50 KOs and for Trinidad to get back up off the floor and proceeded to stop Campas in 4 rounds is impressive. Crazy to see Campas taking some vicious shots and still managed to stay up on his feet before the ref stopped it. What a chin he had.
Another greasing of the skids by Don King for his pet project. Campos was a pitch perfect opponent - a glittering record of 56-0 & yet conveniently never having won anything of note in his life upto that point, but hey, who cares when Michael Buffer can announce that ring record, right? Trinidad must be the real deal to knock him flying. The little hype job did what he usually did though & hit the skids like Bambi on ice, yet again saved by an enemy who was carefully selected & without the firepower or class to finish the job. As usual, the obvious cracks were papered over with a knockout. & on the show went… But not for the first time, my day was ruined.
