30 years ago tonight, wilfredo gomez beat juan laporte in one of the greatest performances i ever witnessed. Gomez was one of the 5 greatest fighters i ever saw and this performance was magnificent. Hard to believe 1984 was so long ago.
Laporte pretty much sh*t the bed in that fight. Didn't even attempt to put up any semblance of an effort. Gomez dominated but it was pretty much against a listless punching bag.
Agreed; Gomez would not have been as impressive against anyone that bothered to put up an effort. He did as he pleased because he was allowed to. His legs weren't the same by that point.
