Round 1

Rodriguez is the shorter man and the immediate aggressor, chasing Guevara across the ring with his busy jab. Rodriguez is doubling it but not sparing any force, throwing it as heavily as a true punch. Guevara is dancing around the ring nimbly, keeping his long legs bent and up en pointe as he eludes Rodriguez. A blow to the kidney area by Rodriguez makes Guevara wince and look to the referee for assistance. Guevera is landing a few combinations from outside, leading with the hook and then dropping his hands down to the body as he scurries back outside.

Round 2

Guevara continues to dance circle around his challenger, throwing predictable but quick jab/cross combos at him without ever setting his feet. Rodriguez gamely tries to skewer him with his own hard right hands and flashes some hooks at him as he walks him to the ropes, swiping him with a couple up high by the cheekbone. Guevara nods approval but doesn't stand in the pocket to slug with him, still moving and jabbing/crossing.

Round 3

Guevara is landing that right hand sharply now, leaning into it with extra torque before shimmying back outside behind his forearms. Very good defense by Guevera although Rodriguez is getting a few shots in as Guevara increases his activity on the inside. Guevara gets back to circling wide and throwing the 1-2. Rodriguez follows, hands high, winging a hook as he closes in.

Round 4

Rodriguez jabs and hooks his way toward Guevara but can't get inside past those stinging jabs and thudding right hands, with Guevara redoubling his distance every time he hits Rodriguez. The challenger tries to walk him into the ropes but has to blind himself with his gloves to block a high flurry, allowing Guevara to escape. Guevara misses a wild hookercut as he is turning almost 180 degrees away from Rodriguez, but then squares up on him and blasts away with 4-5 straight shots. Guevara keeps circling wide around the medium-size ring, landing his 1-2 through the gloves and reaching down with left hooks to the body for good measure.

Round 5

Rodriguez hunts, his posture tight and leaned forward, tossing right hands to the body. Guevara is still leading him all over the ring and countering but getting caught up to and caught with some of the wide punches of the persistent little man. Guevara complains a blow behind the head to the referee and Rodriguez keeps advancing on him while Guevara is looking for a break in the action. Rodriguez gets him on the ropes and tees off with clapping overhand shots with either hand. Guevara is trying to get some distance to counter but is getting smothered and wailed on.

Round 6

Rodriguez keeps the drama high and his hunting stance low, driving forward behind those right hands as he takes purposeful steps toward Guevara, cutting the ring off and landing near the ropes. Guevara is hurling himself forward with his 1-2 every few steps, but is now getting blocked by a suddenly more aware and determined Rodriguez. The nervous champion is made to hug the ropes circling away, where Rodriguez is reaching him and tagging him with overhand rights.

Round 7

Guevara has found his rhythm again circling on the outside, after Rodriguez lands his jab early but fails to connect on any power shots with Guevara's sly movements against the ropes. Good sharp counters landing now, in particular the right uppercut. Rodriguez is just willingly marching right into it, trying to get Guevara trapped against the corners and ropes as he did before to land something big and change his confidence level. Now a three punch combo by Guevara. His confidence is pretty high at the moment.

Round 8

Guevara is backing away quickly, throwing hard counter jabs and uppercuts in his wake. Rodriguez is keeping his head down and his upper body hunched over, hovering well past his feet as he spills leather into the vicinity of Guevara's body. Guevara is walked to the ropes and smacked hard in the melon with an overhand right that shakes sweat out of his hair. Guevara gets back to the outside and stays just barely a half-step away from Rodriguez while flashing his hands at him. Rodriguez again gets him on the ropes and rocks his brains with an overhand right. Guevara now circles without punching. Rodriguez keeps pumping the overhand right and connects a few more times, as Guevara is moving. A good exchange near the bell, Rodriguez landing a lot of meaningful shots, jabs, hooks and straights.

Round 9

GUEVARA DOWN!!! - from a head clash as soon as they ran together once the bell rang!! His eye is busted open as well. The referee takes him over to the ringside physician. He is ruled as able to continue, but the referee walks over and deducts a point from Rodriguez.

NOW IT IS TOTAL WAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Both combatants are made furious by the delay, and absolutely destroy each other with hard punches up close, with Guevara trying to move away but still halfway sucked into a brawl with Rodriguez. It's like a very violent ballet as the two traverse the ring and smash each other in the mouth with one hook or uppercut after another. Rodriguez lands a right hand to the jaw as Guevara opts to pull back out and cleave to the ropes. Now a hooking combo by Rodriguez misses. Guevara is staying outside and throwing some precise counters, but isn't keeping Rodriguez at bay for long.

Round 10

Guevara triples his jab while circling away. Rodriguez stays on top of him, with his Kostya Tszyu rat tail bouncing along behind him as he walks face first into jab after jab to lay punch after punch on the fleeing champion. Guevara is getting absolutely clobbered with that right hand, and it's turning his head very sharply now whenever it lands. His cut is also freely flowing in several bright red brooks down the length of his face. The referee interrupts one of the relatively less furious exchanges to have the physician take a peek. They go on after a little cotton swabbing. Guevara is jabbing with the express purpose of getting Rodriguez to stay off him, not wanting any part of a slugfest. Rodriguez pushes out with his left forearm and trails himself in with hard right hands.

Round 11

Guevara tries to lean in and clinch for once, but it backfires on him as Rodriguez just pushes him back to mid-range and lights him up with a few jabs and a right to the face. Guevara gets on his bike and pedals furiously, actually leaping away when Rodriguez's jab and now throwing next to nothing of his own, just a flicked left jab while galloping halfway across the ring from his pursuer. Rodriguez loses him and has trouble getting back inside as Guevara is popping a long jab and absolutely flying around the ring, burning rubber. A few combos from Guevara without every slowing down. Rodriguez flurries hard and Guevara drops down to duck the whole shebang. Hard counter right by Guevara, who goes back to running rather than press the advantage. He might realize he can't knock Rodriguez out and doesn't want to get stupidly caught himself trying.

10-9 Guevara, did enough good work in the last 90+ seconds despite flat-out running early on.

Round 12

Rodriguez comes out swinging hard! Guevara is chased to each of the four corners of the ring, with Rodriguez keeping a jab and/or right hand on his face at all times. Guevara is getting lit up even while putting all his focus on defense. Rodriguez wants what he wants and will not be denied. Rodriguez is hustling inside at a breakneck pace and ignoring the jabs that greet him, getting Guevara to trade with him to get off the ropes. Rodriguez is throwing not only harder punches in the exchanges but more of them and is always sure to be last whether or not he initiated. HARD STUFF fired by both!! GREAT exchange at the end. Rodriguez snapped Guevara's head back with a few rights.
