    interesting

Think Joe didn't have enough in 47 to knock out Charles?

Well he struggled twice with Walcott in his two best performances, Charles of course struggled a bit with JJW too but also defeated Ray, Moore, Bivins, and Louis himself, H2H or Resume, it's Ez for me.

    The obvious fighters win.

    Liston KO 3 Moore (mismatch)
Marciano KO 8 Patterson (exciting while it lasts)
Louis KO 12 Charles (nip and tuck until Joe catches Ezz)
Clay KO 10 Walcott (walcott makes it interesting early but is ultimately overwhelmed by the younger mans speed)

This assumes we are looking at all men at their best during this period not at their worst.

Sonny Liston vs Archie Moore - Liston

Rocky Marciano vs Floyd Patterson - Marciano

Joe Louis vs Ezzard Charles - Tough one. Prime Charles clearly outpointed him in '50, but this is a Joe 3 years younger and more active. Charles face at the end of their bout really showed the effects of the blows that Joe did get through. I think Joe still had enough in the tank in '47 to outpoint Charles. - Louis

Jersey Joe Walcott vs Cassius Clay - the reason I picked Machen over '63 Clay was that this was not the Ali we knew yet. This is the one that struggled with Doug Jones. He was still learning and developing. And for that reason I pick the very crafty Jersey Joe. A year or two don the line I would go with Ali, but at this time - Walcott
