32 years ago today: Buster Douglas shocks the world with 10th-round KO of Mike Tyson

was coming home that night with my wife from dinner when i heard the news on the radio. could not believe what i heard! buster was very motivated that night. he put all his grief and anger of the loss of his mom into his training and punches. a perfect storm for tyson to walk into.

 

I always felt that the fight was so one sided it showed even if Tyson was in shape he would have had problems. I go with the fact he wasn’t in shape, but it’s arguable Douglas would have won anyway. I think Tyson would have won the rematch though, it was clearly a one off situation.

 

Great fight. It was just what Tyson needed. A good old fashion ass kicking. Loved it.
A performance for the ages by Douglas. His best effort, and his only real top notch effort.

 

I remember that day very well…..no one could believe it. People who didn’t live through Tysons rise don’t understand how popular he was. A Mike Tyson fight was not just a fight but a worldwide event, it was a must see.

 

Tyson was not in shape for that fight, he had fat in his midsection which proved he didnt take buster seriously which he admitted.
