    Rounds 3-5:

...and so begins Rubio's fourth reign as WBC Latino middleweight champion. :partya

El Veneno sure has that flabby-looking sort of strength. :think Even flabbier than usual here. The Ghanaian fell victim to superior firepower despite having the more sculpted look, proving for the million-and-umpteenth time that physique doesn't necessarily matter in boxing.

Rubio took a great deal of hits himself, but seemed to realize that his were a lot more hurtful and that taking some collateral damage would earn him the knockout. Akrong fell on the sword, helping Rubio out a bit. He was dropping his guard and gobbling rights like they were candy. The hooks to the body are what really did him in, though. Rubio meted out a well-balanced power attack and left an overmatched opponent completely broken by the end, so that all it took was a single hook to the breastplate to render him paralyzed and vanquished.

That is two softies in a row for Rubio now since his heroic upset of David Lemieux. I'd like to not see him stay in a holding pattern and squander the momentum that should have come along with that upset.

    Dream list for future defenses:

    - Luis Ramon Campas (AFTER Yori Boy collects his historic 100th win...maybe this could be his cash-out/retirement bout)

    - Ricardo Mayorga

    - Marcos Reyes (another all-Mexican showdown; Reyes is already in the WBC minor title pipeline)

    - Giovanni Lorenzo

Those would all be WARS, and they're the only guys in the middleweight range who actually are Latino who would make for good/competitive fights with Rubio.

Some fighters put vasaline all over and Rubio uses Calamine lotion. Whatever works.

BTW, don't know if anyone caught Rubio's comments on Chavez when he pulled out of the Hearns date. He basically called him out and called it an excuse (a poor one at that).

After dealing with Manfredo (#5 WBC), Chavez should grow a pair of cojones and answer the challenge of his #1 contender.

If that doesn't happen, Rubio should aim for one of the guys on my list to defend his Latino belt.

No more softies. He isn't getting any younger - or less flabby.

rubio is my boy. Born the same place i was.

I would love to see Jr. face Rubio. Rubio does seem to have an odd type of power. He doesnt look to have it but when people are hit flush by him they react.

    Tiene manos pesadas.
