They just showed the end of Jose Lopez vs. Eugenio Lopez in Durango, MX (WBC Fexombox light welterweight title) and then jumped to Dante Jardon vs. Ricky Sismundo (WBC Youth super featherweight title) in progress in Queretaro, MA at the start of the sixth round.

Hurry and catch the last four rounds. It's scheduled for ten but it's a pier six brawl.

We may also get highlights or a full replay of Adrian Hernandez vs. Gideon Buthelezi (WBC light flyweight title, from yet a THIRD separate venue in Mexico) if we're lucky. It's over if you want to check the results elsewhere, I won't spoil it here just yet. It's a little strange to me that they didn't prioritize that one for live viewing as it's easily the most important WBC event of the evening. :huh

    Damn. This is a war!!

Back and forth throughout the 7th.

    WHAT THE ****??? HORRIBLE ENDING!!!

Sismundo collapsed to his hands and knees after what looked like a thumb to the eyes as a hook landed at the bell to end the round. The referee got down next to him and started counting in his face while Sismundo was recovering.

That isn't a great note for what looked like a great fight to go out on.

edit: OK, the replay shows the hook landing pretty clean. Sismundo got hit right on the socket/eyeball but it was all knuckle. No thumb. He sold it as being one by pawing at his face and complaining as he went down - but not. Legal punch. Clean knockout.

Dante "Crazy" Jardon just nudged his KO% from 84 to 85 in his twentieth pro bout.

    That IS crazy.

I was a bit disappointed in Jardon's performance prior to the last round but he did state in the interview that he wanted to try different things so that might explain it.

Sismundo tried a little acting and it didn't work out for him. He was probably hoping to milk himself a DQ or at least some extra recovery time on top of the minute between-round break by convincing the ref he got thumbed.

He should have been paying attention to the hand flashing fingers in his face instead of putting on a convincing display of agony.

I mean, he probably WAS in a lot of pain. That hook may have badly damaged his eye even without a poke.

Still, you can't take gambles like that and be upset when you go belly up.

    What title is this for?

    Why is it twelve rounds?

    Round 1

Salgado is swinging hard right uppercuts into the chin of his much shorter foe. Armenta tries to slide in and out and jab up at the taller man. Salgado is able to land some heavy hooks to the body and head while Armenta is zipping back and forth. Salgado now boxes tall, using his jab and firing the right hand from range. They trade punches at point blank and Salgado's knuckles sweep the canvas!! The referee steps between them and holds Salgado's gloves in his hands but has ruled it a slip somehow. Nice right hand by Salgado before the bell.

10-9 Salgado since there was no knockdown ruled, although technically there could have been.

    Round 2

Armenta jumps forward with a wild looping left and Salgado is dumped on his butt. Again it's ruled a slip. Again it's debatable (he wasn't hurt this time or last, but technically punches landed and he succumbed to gravity, so...)

Salgado is whipping away! Armenta is hurt with uppercuts! Salgado just lays his hands all over him!! ARMENTA IS ON THE ROPES, CRUMBLING!! Armenta sits there by the bottom rope as a count is applied, his nose gushing blood. He scrambles at "eight" but is waved off.

Salgado is exciting and I can see why he has a loyal following in Mexico...but why the hell is he called "Sugar"?

The man is a pure puncher, an uppercut machine. There is not much sweetness about his style.

Anyway, he's on a decent tear on the domestic scene since his lone loss to Goofy Montes. It could be time for a rematch. Those two could meet ten times and the winner may change but it would always end in knockout.

Miguel Gonzalez of Honduras is 7-0 with six knockouts, and somehow gets matched in a super featherweight 6 rounder with Ricardo Ake of Mexico...making his debut. :blood

Did someone feed the commission peyote?

    Round 1

Gonzalez slips in the corner on a wet spot after using some movement and a high shell to stem off Ake's attacks. Ake starts to pick up steam, throwing hard rights and hooks up on his toes and rocking Gonzalez around a bit despite getting blocked. Gonzalez lands a jab but gets stabbed with a right to the body. Nice exchange, Gonzalez lands a hook but is clocked with a right to the face that has him wavering back above the waist. Gonzalez is so loose it's hard to tell whether he's hurt or just flailing himself around on purpose. Ake is definitely landing some hard right hands, it's just a question of how badly they're affecting Gonzalez. Very difficult to determine. Gonzalez is slithering all around and popping out counters, and lands a good right of his own.

    10-9 Ake
