Dmitry Pirog vs. Gennady Martirosyan RBR

Note: this happened over 24 hours ago. I was unable to see it at the time or do a live RBR, but prefer to have one for posterity indexed among all my similar threads. Besides, someone did make a thread here yesterday but it had a ridiculously juvenile and unprofessional title. It also was anything but a true comprehensive “RBR” (although the poster Money did start to make a respectable effort to convert it to one, about halfway through).

So, please don’t merge this with the one from yesterday. This is to have my round-by-round scoring & call of the action preserved and searchable under my own thread history. :good

 

Round 1

Flash jab by Pirog. Martirosyan tries to jab in step with him, but Pirog is circling too quickly to his right. Short right by Martirosyan, grazing. Several jabs from Pirog, now circling left. Left hook and then a left jab off the hook by Pirog. Martirosyan is only grazing with some straight rights to the body and missing all his lefts (jabs and reaching hooks). Pirog is using constant movement and flashing out the left jab, coiling up into a tight shell to successfully block every time he retracts and also dipping side to side. Long left jabs turned over into hooks before being pulled in by Pirog. Martirosyan tries to reach out with some body shots. Pirog switches southpaw. Now orthodox. Now southpaw again, and back. A single left or right jab thrown from each stance before switching with a twist of his entire top half. Martirosyan finally lands well upstairs, propelling himself forward off his heels to smash a left hook through Pirog’s defensively upheld right glove and bouncing off his head.

Round 2

Pirog ducks and slips in circular motions as Martirosyan tries to find him with a jab. Body jabs now by Martirosyan as Pirog backs up in a straight line but still gyrates above the waist. Counter left hooks to the body by Pirog slow Martirosyan’s advance. Several high jabs by Martirosyan hit the gloves of Pirog. Long left hooks to the body by Pirog. Nice right hand by Martirosyan catches Pirog in mid-swoop. Pirog gets back outside and pecks away with jabs and hooks to the midsection and a few straight flurries to the chin as Martirosyan struggles to find an appropriate place to keep his guard. Pirog keeps chipping away until Martirosyan finally digs his heels in and throws a big hook-2 combo. Pirog gets right back on him and hooks him in the body, and lands a big uppercut to the chin. Long thumping underhands to the body by Martirosyan. Pirog rolls his upper body around some high jabs and lands his hook to the body. Lead rights and jabs land for Pirog while ducking and shoulder rolling.

20-18 Pirog

 

Round 3

Big left hook lead by Martirosyan, mostly blocked. A couple of stiff jabs from Martirosyan land flush. Pirog starts to hook him in the face from long range while backing up. Martirosyan lands a good hook. Pirog tickles him down low from the outside. Now upward-slanting hooks to the face as Pirog bends into a half-crouch. Long rights by Pirog, always moving. Pirog takes a big step inside and smacks Martirosyan int the face with a left hook. Another left hook inside for Pirog, and he raises his arms to let out a triumphant whoop. Martirosyan is angered into action, and blasts away with some heavy body shots. Pirog is backed up as Martirosyan hooks away beneath his elbows with lefts and rights. Long left hook by Pirog. Martirosyan grinds his way in, head down and leading with a right to the body before digging in a left hook on the other side. Good head movement by Martirosyan, staying clear of Pirog’s flurries – but Pirog lands about a dozen body shots. BIG combo by Martirosyan, shoeshining down low and working his way up with some powerful and progressively straighter blows.

Round 4

Pirog slips jabs, rolling his shoulders as he steps laterally and constantly ad******g the placement of his right glove to either side of his chin for an extra layer of safety. Martirosyan can’t connect with the jab, but does land a peach of a right that gets Pirog’s attention as he’s ducking forward into it. Martirosyan presses the advantage and rips two big body shots. Pirog is in no distress, and manages to turn Martirosyan’s face with a few long hooks while backing up. Pirog keeps landing to body and head while keeping a step beyond Martirosyan. Two and three shot flurries leaning in from the outside by Pirog, always rolling when done to avoid counters. Martirosyan tries to cover up and block what he can coming forward, but is waiting until he’s right on top of Pirog to open up with powerful body attacks. Pirog tries to flutter a jab in Martirosyan’s face but the latter ducks and uses some good roulette ball head movement to leave Pirog rapidly shadowboxing with his left. Huge leaping hook by Martirosyan. A spirited attack follows but he is pushed back with jabs and hooks as Pirog takes relaxed steps back to set him up. Pirog ducks and lands some jabs to the body and a right. Flurry down the middle by Pirog, falling right in to lean against Martirosyan’s chest. Martirosyan tries to clap his fists against Pirog’s head but goes wide and too far past, just flapping his arms together behind Pirog’s neck.

40-36 Pirog

 

Round 5

Jabs to the body by Pirog, circling out. Martirosyan eats some short hooks as Pirog leans in but lands a seam-buster to the side. BIG combo by Martirosyan as Pirog slows down and backs up with his lattice-armed guard to the ropes. Martirosyan’s arms whip out hard against Pirog’s sides. Pirog tries to sharp shoot while crouching and stepping back, but hits Martirosyan’s gloves with his hooks and uppercuts. Wild hook by Martirosyan is ducked by Pirog, but a pair of hard rights land on the nose and make him wince. Pirog throws a combo and has everything but the final hook blocked. Martirosyan keeps pounding his way in with rights and hooks. Hard right to the body by Martirosyan. Left hook up top by Pirog. Several flashed jabs to the face by Pirog. Martirosyan keeps his guard up and then hammers through with a right. Exchange before the bell, Pirog flurrying and Martirosyan throwing a hard 1-2 a few times over.

Round 6

Triple jab by Pirog. Left hook to the body by Martirosyan. Right hand lead backing up by Pirog. Martirosyan ducks another right and comes roaring up with a 1-2 but just misses as Pirog angles himself back and to the left. Flurry forward by Pirog. Martirosyan pokes up with his jab to try and set up a big right but Pirog is too slippery. Left hook to the body by Martirosyan. Pirog turns himself side to side with the left hand low and right curving a “U” under his chin depending on which way he’s turned. Martirosyan throwing straight shots up high and getting blocked or slapped away as Pirog defends and then sneaks in left and right uppercuts to the body as Martirosyan is pulling back outside to regroup. Long shoeshine to the body from outside and then a couple of uppercuts flipped into the chin for good measure by Pirog. Martirosyan tries to back his way in with a long right hand to the body from around the side and then an overhand right to the head. Pirog takes it all on the arms as he constantly changes from a classic turtle shell to the perpendicular guard to adapt to Martirosyan’s attack.

Round 7

Pirog misses a big left hook off the back foot as Martirosyan tips himself forward but cocks his head to one side. Fast flurries to the top of the skull by Pirog as Martirosyan wraps his gloves around his mandible. Pirog crouches backing up and pokes out a jab to the body. Martirosyan walks into some left and right upper-hooking flurries landing under and behind his gloves. Pirog ducks up and down quickly as Martirosyan advances with a jab. Martirosyan tries to just walk straight into Pirog and shove him back with his forearms but Pirog nimbly creates extra space with a quick hop and gets his left jab going. Big left hook by Martirosyan is dipped under by Pirog, who then rubberbands himself out of the pocket before straightening up. Jabs to the face by Pirog before getting back into his Joe Louis guard. Jabs and rights land for Pirog, snapping out in rhythm as though performing a cord-assisted exercise while reversing with smooth, self-assured footwork.

Round 8

Digs to the body by Martirosyan. Jabs up top hitting the roaming right glove of Pirog. HARD left hook to the body by Martirosyan as Pirog lands a softer one to his head. Flurry by Pirog. Left hook to the head and body by Pirog while backing up. Martirosyan loads up on a big shot and slips. Cuffing hook by Pirog from outside. Martirosyan advances and takes several lumps to the beltline while tucking his chin and raising his arms. Pirog now works in a left hook to the body and effortlessly converts the left into a downward-slapping parry as Martirosyan tries to toss a right hand down low in return. HARD left hooks to the body by Martirosyan coming forward but Pirog is stepping back and turning to take some of the edge off, and flurrying back into Martirosyan’s face. Hard left and right digs to the body by Martirosyan now, and he starts to slam upstairs with haymakers. Pirog blocks all the head shots and minimizes the effect of the body shots, all while throwing his own crouching & back-stepping jabs to the body and a few high-arcing rights to the face of Martirosyan. Again Martirosyan goes down; again it’s a slip. Wild hook by Martirosyan. Pirog goes down. Slip for him as well.

Round 9

Martirosyan charges in, throws a wild right uppercut that Pirog sidesteps. Slapping left hooks to the buttocks by Martirosyan. Pirog is no longer flashing the jab, actually snapping it out more fiercely now as he backs up. Martirosyan keeps trying with the lunging left hooks to the body, head tucked down tightly into his hairy chest. Hard jabs by Pirog backing up. HARD right by Martirosyan over the top, makes Pirog blink before coming back with a succession of jabs to the face and left hooks to the body. Pirog slaps Martirosyan in the face with both hands coming forward. Martirosyan tries to imitate him with some upper body rolling but can’t break Pirog’s rhythm and just gets conked on the head with harder and harder hooks as Pirog puts more emphasis on them. Martirosyan rips away to the body under Pirog’s bent elbows but doesn’t have much effect. Hard 1-2 into the guard by Martirosyan. Pirog stretches his rear leg out and makes himself a long target. Right glove up in the air by Pirog, showboating as he lands jabs. Again. Now a right uppercut by Pirog. Martirosyan is staggered and stumbles back across the slippery ring.

Round 10

Martirosyan comes sweeping in, eating a jab but throwing ferociously through Pirog’s counters. Uppercut by Martirosyan as Pirog backs away. Hard left and rights to the body sweeping out wide by Martirosyan. Pirog covers up and lets Martirosyan hammer his guard with down-strokes. Pirog shoves his left into Martirosyan’s face, knuckles resting on his brow and then pushes him straight back to line him up for a HUGE right cross. Martirosyan eats it and comes forward, throwing hard. Pirog flurries into his face with endless slapping hooks. Martirosyan stops throwing but keeps coming forward, trying to block or tilt his head to stunt the damage. Martirosyan is throwing very slow hooks to the body now, getting peppered upstairs with slapping hooks as a very calm Pirog circles him in close. Right to the body by Pirog, and he slips to his knees. Hard rights and a left hook to the head by Pirog. Martirosyan tries to get an udder-milking combo to the body going but is slapped back some more by the nonstop hooks to the face until the bell.
