Raul Martinez vs. Rodrigo Guerrero II & Jackie Nava vs. Soledad Edith Matthysse RBR

The last few rounds of Daniel Sandoval vs. Jorge Silva were just shown on delay on Box Azteca. They were absolutely slaying each other in a close fight. Silva went down hard toward the end of the 8th and was lucky to make it to the bell. It was close enough on points (at least on the Azteca commentators' cards) that he could possibly have pulled out a win had he made it to the final bell - but it was not to be. Sandoval's power came through again with only a minute left in the ten-rounder. Silva was dumped by a four punch combo, but really it was one shot that ruined him in particular. Sandoval landed a left hook, which set up a monster right uppercut that sent Silva reeling straight back and a fish in a barrel for the 1-2 that ultimately sent him off his feet. The uppercut alone would have done the job, no doubt about it.

I'm hoping they also show Raul Martinez vs. Rodrigo Guerrero in its entirety. It's already over and the result is up for those who want to check (but don't spoil it in here for people reading along, just in case) but it wasn't aired live on Fox Deportes due to boxing being the redheaded step child of sports programming and always taking a backseat to get preempted by other crap. :verysad

Round 1

Guerrero comes forward, jabbing and rolling his fists around in short circles. Martinez is on the outside, squatting and thrusting out long jabs to the body while circling away. Swatting hook by Martinez suddenly lurching inside. Guerrero keeps taking short steps forward, and digs a right just above the ribs. Martinez tosses up high lead rights and darts back with his left arm held low and head tilted away. Guerrero walks him near the ropes and lands some jabs but Martinez is able to circle him back out to the middle of the ring. Martinez throws a wild left hookercut, not landing flush but making Guerrero jump back a step. Good hard right uppercut to the side by Guerrero. Martinez is backed up nearly into a corner by the jab. Martinez keeps shuffling out of the way with his left arm held low in a sling position, backed up to the ropes in between wild and brief lead right attacks.

Replay shows one of Guerrero's body shots was a pretty blatant low blow.

 

Round 2

Good exchanges off the bat! Martinez is circling to the left but staying close and throwing high right hand bombs, while Guerrero turns and tries to time with big hooks and shorter, straight shots! Guerrero is sweeping his arms over Martinez's head as the latter ducks and tries to slap his way upright with left hooks behind the ear. Guerrero is busier and throwing straighter and truer shots, and Martinez is putting more power into his but missing badly. Body shots by Guerrero. Martinez lands some wide wrecking balls just above the hips. Straight gut shots by Guerrero. Right hand up top by Martinez.

Fun fight.

Round 3

Guerrero is circling now, not waiting for Martinez to do so. Hooks and long straights from Guerrero, thrown together in a predictable pattern but with decent accuracy. Martinez is squatting and lunging at the body with low jabs. Guerrero is placing his jab all over Martinez's face from outside, but softly. Lead overhand rights by Martinez, nearly drilling Guerrero into the ropes. Big overhand rights coming forward, and then a left hook down low by Martinez. Guerrero drives him off with alternating left and right uppercuts flying up from his sides. MARTINEZ DOWN! Left cross with less than ten seconds left in the round! Martinez looks stunned! (both in terms of surprise, and pain)

Martinez is coming forward, hungrily chipping away at the body with both hands. Guerrero trades with him but is backed up to the ropes. Martinez hurts him with a big right hand to the face! Guerrero is dazed and slumps back against the ropes as Martinez pummels him! Somehow Guerrero fights his way off! Big body shots by Guerrero! Martinez is a buzzsaw, flurrying down low and chopping away at Guerrero's head. Hard left hook up top by Martinez. Guerrero lands a HUGE left uppercut!! AWESOME ROUND!! Martinez swings wildly with wide hooks, as Guerrero stands his ground and twists his full body weight into hard uppercuts! Back and forth action!!! Martinez fading as Guerrero seems to pick up strength toward the end of the round!

The replay shows that right before he got hurt, Guerrero was complaining to the referee about a pretty blatant Martinez left hook to the gonads.

They are both fighting dirty in there!

Round 5

Guerrero pushes forward with his right jab, and as they lean together it morphs into a right hook to the seam of the trunks. Accidental low blow. Glove touch. Martinez circles to his left, dancing on his toes. Left hooks by Guerrero now, the versatile boxer now using the orthodox stance and not losing any accuracy. Big lead right by Martinez! Another! Guerrero back to southpaw. 1-2 misses as he falls in and gets grabbed, both of them tipping into the ropes. Guerrero comes forward now behind a left jab, and whips out a left hook and right hand that are quickly answered back by Martinez with both just barely missing. Stiff left jab by Guerrero. Martinez flurries low at him. Martinez loads up on several lead rights but they miss or graze Guerrero at the shoulder. Guerrero lands a solid orthodox 1-2.

Round 6

Martinez circles left and pops a jab to the body. Chopping overhand right from outside by Martinez. Guerrero wades in and trades low-dipping body shots with him. Martinez lures Guerrero back to the ropes and springs the trap with a soaring overhand right. Guerrero throws spearing straight combos at him out of the southpaw stance but can't catch Martinez ducking forward and slipping. Head clash!!! Martinez took it bad. Cut opened up. They stand toe to toe and trade brutal flush uppercuts at point blank range! Bone-shaking punches being landed! Martinez's a bit heavier! Martinez circles out and lands some long body shots. Guerrero flashes his hands out in short, quick, straight bursts. Martinez is hooking at his body and dancing to his left. Guerrero presses in on him and lands a four punch combo to the head. Hard body shots by Martinez. Reaching right uppercut to the body by Guerrero, and he takes several flush chops across the face. Hard body shots continue to be traded until the bell as they bounce off the ropes and stay locked in step out to the center of the ring, firing away!

Martinez immediately protests that decision.
