35 year old coming off a KO loss is now supposed to be a great win?

I'm not sure what to make of this loss. He is definitely showing his age but a couple better-placed shots in round 4 and Alvarez may have been stopped. He appeared flat to me, not 100% there psychologically.

 

Cleverly lost to Fonfara. He was never elite. There is nothing great about beating Cleverly who is just about a level higher than Braehmer.

Alvarez just showed how you beat a fighter like Kovalev, who was pushed by good marketing. No low blows and dirty tactics, no robbery. Just a good, old fashioned boxing win.

Hopkins was the biggest PED user in boxing and even he was better when he was younger. He was clearly at his best when he was 32 and beat Glen Johnson.

 

Well, Kovelev was still a prohibitive favorite against a guy who had been inactive for over a year going into this fight and who had a shown a tendency to coast against lesser opposition. The fact that Alvarez was able to rise to the occasion against a guy who passed the eye test quite well over six makes it a good win, at the very least.

Makes since, especially if he was a heavy drinker like some claim. So those sack sucking Kovalev fanboys that keep crying that Ward didn't win fair and square may be correct. Kov beat himself with the drank! That would explain the quick drop off in Kov's abilities. Too bad, Kov could have been legendary.
