Round 1

Vicente is pressuring with his heavily braided head tucked down and slinging his power punches overhead, but Gonzalez is able to take steps back and flurry at him in quick bursts while dodging the blind shots of Vicente. Good accurate power punching off the back foot by Gonzalez as Vicente stays in his chest.

Round 2

Vicente opens up with HARD left hooks and right uppercuts, slinging with full force and eschewing defense but for his chin being tucked in as he rips high shots. Gonzalez is smothering him a bit, leaning in and grinding his head down on the tug of Vicente's braids at the front of his scalp, popping some speed-bag rolls to the head and body. HUGE power shots by Vicente, just pushing forward and loading up for combos of twos and threes.

One of the commentators has the same score as me (1st to Gonzalez, 2nd to Vicente) and the other gave both to Vicente.

Defense = Gonzalez

Nice style match-up. Consistent good action.

 

Round 3

Vicente is marching forward with his head bowed and his left shoulder raised and slamming Gonzalez with uppercuts and chop-around overhands. Left hooks to the body by Vicente are used more like jabs, to steady himself and set up the right hand power shots. Gonzalez is trying to lean forward on Vicente to slow his roll, and popping little flurries but they have less and less on them and are not hitting more arm than anything. Overhand right by Gonzalez at point blank range, clomping against Vicente's fists. 1-2 by Gonzalez backing up. BIG right hand lead by Vicente relentlessly coming forward.

Round 4

VICENTE EXPLODES! UPPERCUTS AND OVERHANDS!!!! Hard stuff!!! Gonzalez stays up, and leans insistently against Vicente to ensure his continued survival. Vicente pushes in, his left shoulder pressing up against Gonzalez's chin and his left forearm shoving into his chest. Slapping overhand rights by Vicente. Gonzalez is taking short steps back trying to shoot his own right hand out during the millisecond of creating space before Vicente closes the gap. Whipping underhand hooks to the hip by Vicente. Gonzalez keeps scooting forward and leaning in to grab at Vicente and lay against him while flipping up left and right uppercuts to the six pack. HARD SHOTS TO THE FACE by Vicente! Nasty grave-digger uppercuts by Vicente. Gonzalez backs up and covers up, with Vicente raining overhands down on his guard.

Mermelada is mounting the second comeback of his pro career!

He's in relatively soft tonight (Nelson Sanchez is 3-2) but it's all about baby steps.

He'll be back on the big stage soon enough, I'm sure. Maybe mid-late 2012. (assuming he keeps winning)

 

Even though the commentators agree Vicente is clearly dominating these rounds, they're convinced for some reason that he's gassing more and more as time goes on and punching himself out. :blood I'm not sure what they're seeing. Vicente could do this for 15 rounds from the looks of it.

 

Huh. :huh You think so too then?

All I see is Vicente beating the crap out of a guy hell bent on surviving.

 

Round 5

Big crashing comets by Vicente coming forward. Gonzalez is pushing in with a net of crossed arms, snapping some short jabs into Vicente's face, pushing off and backing up to the ropes. BIG RIGHT HAND LEAD BY VICENTE!! Gonzalez is a savvy vet, knowing just what to do whenever Vicente hits him square and/or hurts him. Good survival instincts by Gonzalez, and good consistent POWER PUNCHING by Vicente. Exchange! Hard right by Gonzo!
