edit: It's Jorge Daniel "El Chino" Miranda, the challenger tonight for the WBO Latino welterweight title.

 

Here I bet you thought Maidana was the only Argentine boxer campaigning between lightweight and middleweight and sporting the nickname "El Chino". :hey Shows what you all know.

Now here comes Diego Gabriel Chaves to some AC/DC (which slays GNR )

 

This is actually a pretty good match-up.

Chaves is unbeaten, with 15 knockouts in 19 wins.

Miranda is a tough and experienced dude, having been in with lots of world class operators but pretty much always on the losing end...but not easy to stop.

 

Despite both being Argentines, the hometown guy is Chaves: born and raised here in Buenos Aires. Miranda is from faraway Cordoba. (eight hour drive!!!)

 

Round 1

Miranda puts his guard up and circles at mid range. Chaves puts several jabs in his face, and drops a right to the body. Chaves is sent scrambling back from a quick counter by Miranda. Trading jabs now. Chaves throwing more. Quick left hook to the body by Chaves. BIG right hand lead by Chaves. Miranda is hurt! He trots to the ropes, and curls up into a ball while covering up defensively. Chaves slams stiff jabs into his face when he isn't paying attention and his gloves when he is. Clubbing right hand rocks Miranda despite being blocked. Miranda ducks another right hand and puts up a few jabs to backhand Chaves in the face from underneath. Miranda is staying tightly wound and trying to remain inside Chaves' reach to take it away.

Round 2

Chaves stalks and snaps his jab. Miranda circles around him and tries to bury a few long-swiping left hooks in the side of his neck. Nice accurate dart of a jab by Chaves thrown while turning to keep up with Miranda and picking him off while circling. Miranda starts hopping from side to side, trying to give Chaves different looks and upset the straight line attack of his jab. Miranda is ducking and rolling all over the place. He barrels into Chaves and clubs at him with a left hook. His arm slams into Chaves' head at the crook of the elbow and Chaves is knocked down. Not ruled an official knockdown, just a slip/push. Chaves gets back on his jab. Miranda circles outside, hands down to save energy and then lifts them up quickly whenever a jab is thrown or his feet take him wandering too close to Chaves. Brief exchange at the bell, gets cheered.

Round 3

Miranda is having some success now, leaping to his left and tossing jabs in midair down between Chaves' eyes. Good right hands over the top by Miranda when he touches down. More leaping, punching in the act and upon landing. Chaves is having difficulty making adjustments. Miranda gets inside, forearms pinned together in front of his face and leaning against Chaves. Good body shots by Miranda while pressed against Chaves. WHOA!! BIG LEFT HOOK TO THE LIVER BY CHAVES!! MIRANDA ON HANDS AND KNEES!! UNABLE TO RISE!! KNOCKOUT FROM OUT OF NOWHERE!!!

CHAVES WINS!! (and in a round where he was starting to cede momentum to the challenger)

 

Facundo Munoz vs. Sergio Cordoba, 4 rounds @ super middleweight

2-6 vs. 1-1

Probably no future p4p stars here.

 

Round 1

Munoz with his mullet & rat-tail is trying to be slick, backing up and feinting while circling slowly to his right. Cordoba doubles a diversion jab and then throws a big right hand, missing just over Munoz's shoulder. Cordoba keeps coming, slamming away with heavily loaded and telegraphed rights and trying to hook the body as Munoz sidesteps out of the way. Cordoba is trying to force a brawl here, and Munoz doesn't want it. Wild hook by Cordoba misses. Lunging right misses. Jabs by Munoz. NICE counter right by Munoz after dodging a wild left hook. More straight shots by Cordoba, missing as Munoz ducks and moves.
