Claudio Alfredo Olmedo vs. Fidel Monterrosa Munoz RBR

I was looking for the OTHER Argentine boxing card tonight (Matthysse vs. Priotti, which for some reason isn't on TyC Sports while this one is) but any port in a storm. :conf

Round 1

Olmedo thrusts a few left jabs and marches forward with a high turtle shell. Munoz gallops away and fishes with jabs and rights, all caught on the arms. They trade hooks, both brushing each other on the chin. Olmedo keeps coming forward, but Munoz darts away whenever he gets close or starts to think about throwing. Clinch. Munoz throws an uppercut and a left hook coming off the ropes - blocked. Jabs from Munoz, blocked. Olmedo has his guard slapped out of position momentarily by a Munoz hook. A couple of jabs land for Munoz, and he ducks and swoops to his left under Olmedo's jab. Lunging right to the body by Olmedo, missing and leaving himself open to a counter body flurry from Munoz. Clinch. Body taps by Munoz.

These two have a combined 76% KO ratio, and 86% wins-by-knockout ratio.

This may not last the scheduled ten.

 

Round 2

Olmedo comes forward and threatens with a few high jabs, before getting right back into his inactive guard. Munoz hugs the ropes, flitting around in quick wide circles and whipping long left hooks and looping rights with some getting around the guard and jerking Olmedo's shaggy head back an inch or two. Olmedo keeps coming forward and getting ambushed as Munoz jumps forward and hooks his way off the ropes. Olmedo again walks into a big shot, a straight right hand, and goes DOWN!!!!!! On his butt. Up at the count of seven. Munoz jumps on him. BANG BANG BANG, Olmedo is blasted into a corner a nonstop barrage of overhands and hooks. Munoz has only average speed and this flurry isn't terribly accurate but he's got Olmedo wilting. He does survive the round, mainly thanks to his guard (and not opening up to throw much back)

Round 3

Lead right by Olmedo, caught on the glove. Munoz misses a left hook, ducked. Clinch, shoving back and forth. Left hook, right hand by Munoz. Olmedo ducks into him and grabs his waist while delivering an errant body shot. They spin and Munoz falls to the ground. Slip. Olmedo is crouching in low, feinting to the body. Munoz is backing up and throwing hooks at Olmedo's moving head. Now Munoz ducks under a straight combo. They shove together, each trying to muscle the other back with just the strength of their arms. Munoz eats a big right hand in an exchange as they separate. 1-2 by Munoz, blocked. Olmedo lands a flush jab. Munoz trots away. Another jab by Olmedo. Another. Munoz circles and pops his own jab but doesn't land it. Long scooping right to the body by Munoz from off the ropes. Olmedo comes forward and pitches a long overhand right, connecting. Wild left hook by Olmedo, grazing. Munoz now throws a power combo. Good action here, but a little sloppy. Another shove forward as they imitate two male rams vying for dominance.

Round 4

Munoz jab, and Olmedo ducks under. Hard uppercut to the bottom of the chin by Olmedo. Munoz backs up throwing a 1-2, and bounces off the ropes with a left hook on his way by Olmedo. Munoz turns his body three quarters away and flicks out a limp jab, then falls in to clinch. Weak and wide left hooks and overhands from Munoz, as Olmedo times him and bashes him with short chops. Munoz may have spent himself in the first two rounds. Hard left hook by Olmedo. High reaching right hand, gets Munoz on the tip of the forehead. Olmedo walks forward with a battering combo against the ropes, and plugs a hard uppercut into Munoz's chest. Munoz is down!! OUT FOR THE COUNT!

That was a nice mini-war.

 

Matthysse and Priotti are old amateur buddies and training partners. I think it will be one-sided but Lucas won't savage him. Tonight is about closing the year out on a winning note and giving the fans at home a chance to see him before he ventures back north in 2012 to try again to make big things happen. LMM probably won't go for a KO, but he might get one anyway. :yep Huge gulf in class between them as pros.

 

Definitely look for it on Youtube, it would be a perfect way to kill ten minutes with a peek at some little-known bangers. :good Short and sweet.
