Round 1 Chavez pushes his left jab and backs up the much smaller Paez. Chavez is towering over him. High hooks and battering ram rights by Paez, all blocked by the crossed arms of Chavez. Chopping 1-2 by Chavez. More hooks and rights by Paez, blocked on the arms. Chavez stands right in front of Paez and pokes down with jabs to the body, then covers up. Paez hooks away at the taller man's guard. Chavez walks him to the ropes. Paez ducks under a jab and nestles against Chavez for a moment before sliding back outside. Right hand by Chavez is fired down and turns Paez's face. Paez pouts and shakes his head in a macho display of defiance. Good uppercut by Paez! Chavez backs up and blocks. Paez is coming forward hooking hard, but all on the arms. Chavez leans in and works the body. Hooks around the gloves by Paez, and some uppercuts up close. 10-9 Paez, actually came on strong enough and rocked Omar's head back enough times to nick it.
Round 2 Paez is sticking it to Chavez, driving him back and hooking away and making his hair flutter. They grind together, and Paez consistently out-muscles the much larger Chavez and drives him back with uppercuts. They trade hooks to the head and Chavez is more affected. Chavez tries to step back and get room to put extra leverage on his hooks but Paez gives him no quarter and keeps resting his head against his chest while smacking him up top with hooks and then flipping uppercuts into his chin. Chavez looks extremely uncomfortable. 20-18 Paez Jr.
Tarjeta Lamazon - 20-18 Paez Really you couldn't even make a case for Omar winning either round so far.
Round 3 Paez comes forward and drills Chavez with uppercuts thrown in blistering fast combination. Each one comes quicker behind the last; and Paez seems to pick up steam and throw his increasingly hands faster whenever he makes contact. Chavez's head is getting the pinata treatment as he completely eschews the concept of boxing tall and tries the ill-advised tactic of just leaning forward into the little buzzsaw with his gloves in front of his face. Paez whips him around and underneath the gloves. Nasty hard fast hooks and uppercuts. No jabs. Paez is destroying him, chopping that tree down. 30-27 Paez Jr.
They just showed JCC Sr. in the crowd with his red bandana and a big frown. He knows one of his boys is about to lose his zero. (I actually always said it would be Julio Jr. who had his cherry popped before Omar - it looks like I'll have been just a couple of months off if Chavez is forced in the ring with Martinez in early 2012)
Round 4 Chavez is backing up in straight lines, cowering and hiding behind his guard. Bad body language, just waiting for Paez to stop hitting him. Paez is a little machine. Hooks and uppercuts, then resting by leaning against Chavez and grinding at his folded-up arms with his own. BIG COMBO BY PAEZ!!! OH MY GOD, that was vicious. Several left and right hooks to the face, unanswered. All huge power punches, too. Well, Omar Chavez does have a good chin. Paez is wrecking him. HOOKS TO THE HEAD!!! Chavez eats a dozen shots backing up!!!! HUGE BRUTAL ROUND FOR PAEZ!! Almost 10-8!!! 40-36 Paez Jr.
Round 5 Paez comes forward and gets right down to work, tossing up his relentless power punch combos. Chavez fires back with a good 1-2 and momentarily gets some spacing. Signs of life! Chavez keeps firing but overextends and leaves the side door open. In swoops Paez and he's slapping Chavez around just as in rounds 1-4. Another machine gun combo to the face by Paez after Chavez brought his arms down. Paez lands flush jabs to the face. Chavez chops away with his right, trying to hammer down on Paez's head from above. Paez rips HUGE UPPERCUTS to the bottom of the chin. BIG left and right hooks painting both sides of Chavez's face a bright pink. They lean together, with Paez locking his elbows into place on Chavez's torso and using him as a launchpad to lean back and rip more hard power combos. Chavez's head is getting pounded like an anvil. 50-45 Paez Jr.
