Prime Holmes beats both Tyson and Holyfield though, to be fair.

At 38 you gotta assume Clay, but I think even a 34 year old Holmes gives Clay a run for his money.

He`ll be landing against a 38 year old all night like he did v the harder punching Liston who was younger than 38 when Ali dominated him. Ali fought better v Liston than Holmes did v Shavers.

Ali was far better than Spinks.

Tyson and Holy would have handled Shavers better than Holmes did.

Ali had Parkinson`s during his bout with Holmes.

Mercer was nowhere near the level of Ali.

That was a quite strange respons, I have to say. I never said he'd beat Tyson if he was in his prime nor did I allude to it. Haven't thought about that match-up for a long time actually, but if I remember correctly I predicted a Tyson win last time I discussed it.

In this instance I only discussed how he 38-year old Holmes would do against a prime Ali. And what exactly do you think was wrong with stating that Holmes was 38 and rusty? I can't come to think of many less controversial statements personally.

Clay by decisive 15 round decision.

Clay does not have the fire power to stop Holmes, even old Holmes was too crafty and had too good of a chin.

Holmes also has more pride than Liston, he would never quit.

But Holmes certainly would be a bad looser and come up with a bunch of excuses.

The only fighter who would stop Holmes , prime or old,10 out of 10 is Michael Gerard Tyson.

Ali would utterly dominate this fight with ease. It's not even close to a fair matchup. Then again, I also think Prime Ali beats Prime Holmes in clear fashion, while others seem to believe Holmes is all wrong for Ali.

This. Holmes was an arrogant fool to jump in the ring with Tyson coming off a two year layoff. Any reigning champion would’ve did the same to Holmes. Foreman wisely took his time during his comeback before jumping in with top competition or even entertaining taking a title shot.

What’s the excuse for Ali jumping into the ring with a prime Holmes coming off a two year layoff then? He was just as big an arrogant fool as Holmes was later on against Tyson, don’t you think?

Holmes was 38 and even more faded than when he fought so badly against Spinks at 35, no fighter at 38 would trouble a prime Ali except Wlad.

Yes and Ali also knew he had Parkinson`s before that bout because he failed a routine medical before the bout.

What about living fossil, Jersey Joe Walcott who was around that age when he defeated Ezzard Charles twice and came within a couple of rounds of schooling Marciano? Not saying he would beat Ali but he was one old dude that could have at least troubled prime Ali.
