Daniel Rosas vs. Fernando Vargas, 10 rounds @ super flyweight

 

Round 1

Rosas is landing some hooks to the head with his small pink gloves while backing up. Vargas is doing a good job staying on top of him, chopping down with overhand rights and his own hooks to the body. Rosas is landing a bit more sharply, but they're both planting plenty of leather in almost mirror image.

No, the other one. The itty bitty and somewhat less ferocious one.

 

Round 2

Rosas hooks away at the upper legs and lower body of Vargas, bending over to his left to get some extra torque. Vargas comes forward and slams away with right hands behind his jab. Rosas pushes Vargas back with a jab to the five-o-clock shadow, then chops at him with a pair of quick hard rights. They slug away up close, and Vargas lands some nice uppercuts but gets rocked back with an overhand right. Hard jabbing attack by Vargas, and some infighting as he gets atop Rosas. Stiff jab to the face by Rosas, snapping Vargas' head back.

20-18 Rosas

 

Round 3

Rosas stands his ground as Vargas hooks at the body and clips him on the elbows. Big hooking volley by Vargas, opening up and getting tagged with double left hooks to the head by Rosas. Nice jab by Rosas now, snapping it out from his high guard. Vargas is going hog wild, throwing punches that arc high and low with both hands and getting countered viciously as Rosas times him and rips away. Hooks to the body by Rosas, nasty. Vargas is backed up to the ropes and has his organs liquidized by more ripping hooks.

30-27 Rosas

 

Round 4

Vargas is whipping hard body shots with his arms rolled out long and low. Rosas is sticking the jab in his face, and throwing hard short left hooks and right hands at him in rapid succession. Hard rips to the body with the left by Rosas. Flurry high and low. Vargas keeps digging with his under-cuts.

40-36 Rosas

 

Round 5

Big left hook knockdown early by Rosas!! He hops in place jubilantly. Vargas shakes out the cobwebs after regaining his feet ahead of the count. Rosas jumps on him and unleashes several hooks and right hands. They lean together and Vargas smacks the buried head of Rosas with lefts and rights whipping up from below. Hard left hook to the body and overhand right to the face by Rosas, pushing Vargas to the ropes. Both men are landing, no defense!! Big double hook by Rosas, to the bottom of the ribcage and then the jaw! Vargas eats a jab and leans into Rosas, then pushes himself up and slams away with some overhands. Rosas weaves through and wiggles his hips, mocking him. Left hook by Rosas, and a big overhand right. Another knockdown, scored by Vargas as the two hooked together!! Rosas gives his corner a thumbs-up.

10-9 Rosas (10-8 round but he got dropped himself despite winning it overall; this is the proper scoring, correct?)

 

Round 6

Rosas is clapping away and boxing Vargas' ears with hooks and looping rights. BIG left hook by Rosas. Vargas is punching along with him and getting a few in but outlanded 3:1. Rosas is mixing it up to the head and body nicely. Vargas jabs into those pink gloves, backing up. Rosas rattles his brains with a right hand. Rosas has Vargas backed up to the ropes and is diving in with overhands and uppercuts, eating a few shots on the way in but landing hard! Vargas is getting pasted!

Round 7

WAR! Rosas is breathing heavily from the mouth, but is still landing the better shots. Overhand rights are set up and by the steadying and aim-tracking jab. The rights are really doing a number on Vargas, sending his head flying back sharply. Vargas is gamely pounding away with his own rights over the top and a slew of body punches, though. Rosas whips a hard stinging hook to the side, landing with a lot of arm.

70-63 Rosas

 

Round 8

Rosas lands some brutal right hands to the face coming forward. Vargas answers back with his own! Left hooks to the body by Rosas. Hooks to the face by Vargas! This is great, great stuff! Rosas jabs, and jerks his upper body back as Vargas throws a hard right. Right to the ear, left hook to the hip, and uppercut to the chin by Vargas all in a row! Rosas ducks under a jab and lands a right, a hook, a right!! Vargas is rocked! Now Vargas comes back and lands a big looping right, stunning Rosas! They lean together, exhausted. The ref pushes them apart. The crowd is going wild. Rosas keeps leaning on vargas. Rosas dives in with a right hand, missing and getting countered with hooks and uppercuts to the head. Jab to the face by Rosas. Right hand by Rosas! Another! Right hand by Vargas!! Hard rights by both! Rosas spins his arm out behind him, then whips it around into Vargas' face!!

EXCELLENT ROUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

10-9 Vargas (but really more of an "A for effort" round in a close and brutal frame where both hurt each other because it didn't seem right for this to be a shutout with how competitive it was, even though Rosas did edge him out in almost every round)
