    Does anybody know what happened?

This card aired on TV Azteca, but most of us were preoccupied with Martinez vs. Macklin on HBO (and later DeMarco vs. Roman on the free stream on the WBC website)

It was a non-title tuneup for Chocolatito's fourth defense of the WBA light flyweight championship next month against Ramon Garcia Hirales. A loss or even a humdrum decision win against Jimenez would be embarrassing missteps for him.

From what I'm hearing, there was such an obvious dive in the Roman "El Chocolatito" Gonzalez bout tonight that Azteca 7 refused to air it...I haven't seen any tape, but will post it if I can find it...

They didn't air it. I was watching it, waiting for it. Never happened.

    Huh.

The Scenesters don't mention anything about a dive. :think

Palenque de Gallos in Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico - Nicaraguan WBA junior flyweight champion Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez wasted no time, as he scored a first round knockout over Mexico's Manuel "Meny" Jimenez at 2:58 of a non-title bout. Gonzalez looked anxious to throw big punches from the opening bell. He jumped to the center of the ring and threw calculated power punches right away. Jiminez was taking damage early. Jiminez continued to take punishment until he had enough after going down at the end of the first. Gonzalez improves his record to 31-0, with 26 knockouts, while Jimenez falls to 11-3-1, 5 KOs. "Chocolatito" is scheduled to return on April 21 in Morelia, Mexico against former world champion Ramon "Prince" Garcia.

I'd love to see Roman vs. Hernan Marquez. I know they're in different divisions
but that would be a cracking fight if Roman was able to move up comfortably.

And in regard to Roman's next fight, I think they meant Raul Garcia.

    What moron(s) called that a dive? :-(

Sure, Meny took the knee twice and stayed down the second time - but Chocolatito was ripping his body apart with power combos for the whole two minutes it lasted.

The first knee, you could see by his body language the whole time he's drifting back toward the ropes that Jimenez wants to stall and get a reprieve. When he finally went down, it was as Gonzalez was flipping an uppercut into his face. So if that's what made people think it was "strange", that the uppercut that barely looked like it landed hard if at all, was what caused the KD - then those people are idiots and don't understand the concept of a weak fighter just taking a knee after taking an accumulation of damage.

The second knee as well, it wasn't from any one clean flush power shot, but Gonzalez was unloading viciously. Meny found that soft spot on the canvas and conceded.

That isn't a "dive" (as in a premeditated arrangement where you go in with the intent to lose already in your mind before the opening bell even sounds).

That was "****, this guy hits hard. **** this, I don't want none! What was I thinking even signing up for this?"

Maybe it's just some people not grasping the proper terminology.

What Jimenez did is quit, when the going got tough (hell, when the going started to get even mildly unpleasant).

Completely ****ing different from taking a dive (which means that he fixed or threw the fight)

Anyone that calls that a dive know nothing about Roman Gonzalez because this guy if the real deal hand hit real real hard dam Jimenez had to of been in real pain from those body punches, to say the guy took a dive you know nothing about boxing to make a statement like that about this fight.

Roman's best punch is the left hook to the body. Withholding Jimenez's purse
    is stupid.

I mentioned this the other day on my little man thread. I had no idea it went down. Gonzalez knocks out and comforts his opponent again. I love this guy. Dive? Give me a break. Declaring this a dive will got someone on my ignore list.

At worst, this is a case of "This sucks, and it ain't getting any better for me." Understandable, given how over-matched Jimenez was- both technically and physically.

Methinks that Ali-Liston II would have ended in similar fashion, had it been allowed to continue. Very similar dynamic in these two fights, imo.

I heard it was a dive and read that Jimenez had his purse withheld.

After watching the film, it looks like legit accumulation of body shots, for sure.

I hope Jimenez gets paid for taking those shots. Could be way off, but I think it was clean.
