Watching Lara vs Spike O'Sullivan, I asked myself what would happen if he fought GGG at this stage in their careers. Lara's new style of standing toe to toe more and turning from side to side occasionally might have worked against Spike O'Sullivan but against GGG this could spell disaster.

Looking at the amount of left hooks to the body that Spike landed, imagine what GGG could do with Lara fighting this flat footed. I really wonder if GGG at 40 years old could be the first person ever to stop Lara. Would 40 year old GGG be all wrong for Lara with this new toe-to-toe style from Lara?

I would think that for Lara to have a chance vs GGG he would have to use his footwork and stay away from GGG and try to fight him from the outside. If Lara fought GGG like he did Spike, I could see him getting hurt and possibly stopped for the first time in his career.

I also wonder if this fight could ever realistically happen. Not to look past the Canelo fight at all, but if Canelo is able to beat GGG but lets say GGG holds his own and doesn't get beat up too bad, do you think GGG would call it a day OR would GGG consider signing a 2-fight deal with PBC and trying to become Undisputed at 160 before calling it a day?

If GGG doesn't get beat up too bad by Canelo, maybe GGG will want to have one last hurrah at 160 before calling it a day and unfiy the WBA Crown. I think Lara would be a great fight for GGG at 160. Both are about the same age and both Lara and GGG look pretty good for their age, but I still would have to favor GGG to possibly hurt Lara. Lara still looks good with those fast hands, but against GGG he would have to use more footwork. I mean for GGG, if he loses to Canelo, would GGG really just retire? At that point he could still make some big fights at 160 before calling it a day and try and become Undisputed at 160 which I think he could do if he signed with PBC. Do you think the Lara fight could be made next year, maybe after Lara turns 40. How crazy would it be if two 40something Middleweight Champs Unified the WBA Middleweight Titles.

Id still love to see it but GGG has definitely aged better than Lara has at this point. GGG by Ko.

I mean, IF he loses to Canelo, GGG would still be a Unified Middleweight Champ who would surely want to end his career on a high. Where else could he go at that point? A fight with Lara would make sense.

If GGG beats Canelo, he'll be Undisputed at 168. In that scenario, who knows what would happen. But if he loses, he wouldn't want to go out on a loss, would he? At that point it would make sense to fight Lara, a guy his age who holds the Regular version of the WBA Title, and if he wins, he would be one fight away from Undisputed. Unless Jermall would fight Lara first, which I doubt. Look I'm not at all discounting his chances against Canelo, but if he does lose, the fight with Lara back at 160 makes sense. Chasing Undisputed at 160 is a way for GGG to finish his career on a high even if he were to lose the trilogy to Canelo.

Oh it makes alot of sense, but i remember a while back when reporters were asking GGG about a fight, and he said Lara brought no money, and he went and fought money maker monroe. Maybe well see it someday!

But wasn't that before Lara moved up to MW and became WBA Champ? Now he has a real reason to fight Lara.

Golovkin never really took the high risk low reward fights in his career and I don't think he'd do so here.

A star names don't fight Lara unless they really have to. Williams genuinely had no fear of losing, Canelo is an exception to the rule.

Don't expect this fight to ever come off.

I know I know but Lara wouldn't have to move up anymore. GGG would just have to move back down to his normal weight. Lara's already there now.

But ask yourself this, if GGG steps up to Canelo at 168, but fails, then would you expect GGG to retire after that? Surely GGG would want to finish his career on a high, defend his Middleweight Titles again, unifying with Lara at that point would make sense, no?

I can't imagine GGG retiring after another loss to Canelo, unless he gets really beat up bad. Is there a better more interesting fight at 160 than GGG vs Lara?

Nah, Laura is past it. I know you guys say so is ggg but ggg was no more than what he was.
Laura is nothing of what he use to be.
He cant move anymore and resulted to taking punches and becoming a puncher.
He beats him in ggg prime now ggg beats him. No legs and laura aint use to taking no big punches not because he aint fought no big punchers they just couldnt land on him,.

OK but lets say GGG takes a beating from Canelo, do you think Lara could finish off what Canelo started?

I'd expect Charlo, Munguia, Andrade, CEJ or a mandatory tbh.

That's true too, I mean if GGG vacated his belt and refused to fight Lara, choosing to retire instead, then it would be worse than when Canelo vacated the WBC Belt. At least Canelo ended up fighting him the next year. GGG should be mandated to fight Lara even if he gets beat up by Canelo. If GGG vacates his belt and refuses to fight his mandatory in Lara and retires after a loss to Canelo, that would be a bad way to end his career. GGG and his fans especially would need to see GGG end his career on a high and unify vs Lara. And they really can't use the age excuse then either because Lara would be 40 years old by then too.

But doesn't it make sense for GGG to fight someone his age at that point. Lara would be 40 next year. Why would GGG go straight into another fight with a young prime fighter. Doesn't a unification battle of 40something Middleweight Champions, Lara vs GGG make sense at that point, in the event GGG loses to Canelo?
