Shinsuke Yamanaka vs. Vic Darchinyan, 12 rounds @ bantamweight for the WBC title (1st defense of Yamanaka)

 

Round 1

Darchinyan stalks with his right arm held out ahead in an awkward sling blade stance. Hard lefts to the body by Darchinyan. Yamanaka is giving ground ever faster, skipping backward now. Yamanaka is hugging the ropes, playing keepaway as Darchinyan bombs away with lefts downstairs. BUDI BUDI BUDI!! Yamanaka is jumping backward every time Darchinyan lands with a straight left downstairs. It's all the Armenian Aussie setting the pace, very aggressive. Yamanaka is barely throwing back.

Round 2

Yamanaka tries to meet Darchinyan halfway after the bell, crouching in to jab at the belly. Darchinyan bobs & crabs his way in, right arm held up by his face. QUICK right jabs to the face by Yamanaka, threading left and right to get in from side angles before Darchinyan can square up! The crowd reacts loudly to each jab. To be fair, they're landing very crisply. Short right hook by Yamanaka. Darchinyan is dropping his right arm low and popping his shoulder up, twisting side to side as Yamanaka throws to try and roll with shots. Darchinyan's reflexes look a bit slow, at least as compared to Yamanaka's hand speed. Yamanaka circles to his right and sharp shoots with his jab. Darchinyan is trying to close the distance with his crab walk and missing with sling blade right hooks. Darchinyan goes back to the straight left lead to the body but is lunging and missing - and getting jabbed in the face. The crowd is loving it. Nonstop right jabs to the face by Yamanaka, circling, circling, circling..

Round 3

Darchinyan tries to creep in and measure out his punches. High right jab by Darchinyan from a half-crouch, and Yamanaka bursts forward with a HARD counter left! Darchinyan is frozen in his tracks a moment. Yamanaka then gets back on his bike and moves to his right. Darchinyan stalks and looks for jabs flipped up to the face and powerful lefts driven to the lower body. Yamanaka takes a few by the ropes, but circles off and manages to clinch to nullify the attack temporarily. Break. BIG left over the top by Darchinyan, backs Yamanaka to the ropes again. Yamanaka recovers and gets behind his right jab again. Left uppercut inside by Yamanaka misses and leaves him open, left by Darchinyan! ANOTHER! Yamanaka is hurt, head turning away from the force of a left! Backed up to the ropes!
