If not for their trunks being red and blue respectively, I wouldn't be able to tell these guys apart.

Same exact heights, builds, complexions, haircuts...and fighting styles: forward!!!

Guy in blue (Vara, making his sophomore effort as a pro) is landing a bit harder, it seems. That's the difference through 3.

Joel Montes de Oca vs. Luis Valero, 4 rounds @ super featherweight

 

Round 1

Valero down immediately, but it's from a rabbit punch. Not ruled a KD. Time in and they're tossing leather with a vengeance. Hard rights by Valero. 1-2 by Valero. Montes de Oca is flurrying hard stepping in, but a lot of his punches are going behind Valero. Sloppy infighting. Valero takes a step back and lines up a hard straight right to the mouth. Montes de Oca flaps into another clinch. HARD right hand, left hook by Valero. The 1-2 is thrown in several repetitions by Valero, and Montes de Oca keeps on being a sucker for it on the outside.

And yes, the Venezuelan is the brother of the late Edwin Valero.

 

Round 2

Montes de Oca is down from a hard right to the body!! Took all his wind. He's in agony. To his credit, he gets up and keeps fighting. Valero rips him with the 1-2, over and over. Montes de Oca flurries back but is pushed across the ring by the force of Valero's right crosses. Montes de Oca goes down again, ruled a slip. Valero bangs him on the eye with a right hand, and may have cut him. He did indeed. Montes de Oca hops on the outside and jabs back at Valero, then jumps in to hold and work his free hand. HARD right hand by Montes de Oca!! Valero shaken, blinking it off. Lots of repeated clinches and infighting, nip and tuck.

20-17 Valero

 

Round 3

Valero is attacking the body with vigor. Big right hands to the ribcage, making Montes de Oca stagger. The cut on Montes de Oca's right eye is worsening. There is no quit in him, however. He keeps jumping in and flurrying on Valero. He's landing a bit, too. Valero has to dig deep and keep punching back. Nobody is taking a backward step. Valero is now cut, by punches. OH ****!! VALERO KNOCKED DOWN AFTER SEVERAL RIGHT HANDS!!!!
