How long should it take me to run 3km, looking to start my amateur career?

Currently takes me 17mins. Running 3km everyday looking to beat my time everytime

Should be a bit faster. About 13-14 minutes I think.

Doesn't matter about other people's run time, you run 3km as fast as YOU can.

As long as you try to beat your PB every time it doesn't really matter unless you want to be a runner, as long as you are still covering the distance your stamina will be improving.

If you want to run it faster then stop running the 3km. Do some intervals and develop strength/power in your legs while keeping your weight down. If you're in decent running shape it should be under 12minutes. If you're looking to start an amateur career in boxing you should probably stop trying to be a runner and become a boxer instead.

Outside of sprinting, in which you should provide adequate recovery between sets, you shouldn't be running anything but long slow distance, in which your heart rate doesn't exceed your aerobic threshold.

    Uh, it's the Maffetone Method.

I thought you were studying sport science. How do you not know this???

The acquisition of this knowledge is less than a hobby for me, yet I know this, and you don't?

    :verysad

People really need to start questioning your credentials.

Wait, that just made me laugh.

Uh.. what does the Maffetone method have to do with a guy wanting to improve his 3km time?
You do not have any knowledge, you continuously spout bull**** about the latest thing you've googled and not understood. You have zero sense of context or how things fit in together.

I run twice a week and my target is to run every KM in 5 minutes (12 KM/h is a my normal running speed and easy to hold on to). I run about 5 to 10 KM at one run, but you have to build stamina for that.

Wow, you really are ignorant. In fact, I'll go on to say that you're dangerously ignorant.

People that listen to you may get hurt.

Apparently, you really are clueless about fitness. The purpose of the Maffetone method is for an athlete to run below their aerobic threshold, while continuously improving their output, which in turn, improves their time.

However, this method allows an athlete to avoid glycolysis, so they don't overtrain.

Why am I educating YOU on sports science???

Why don't you know this already???

Thread starter, you have to do the research yourself. Don't listen to guys like dealt with. Listening to guys like him will impede your performance at best, and get you hurt at worst.

Look up the Maffetone method and start educate yourself about proper endurance training, so you can remain injury free.

Also, don't neglect strength training. For that, I would recommend taking a look at Gray Cook's functional movement system, and then use exercises based upon that foundation. The key is improving performance, but remaining injury free.

I know that the Team GB standards range from 10:37 to 11:53 (men) dependent on weight.
