3rd best Heavyweight of the 80s

the #1 was split between the more skilled Holmes and the more dominant Tyson, both having equally good resumes, but Tim Witherspoon was easily the next best. He beat Alfonzo Ratliff, Renaldo Snipes, Floyd Cummings, James Tillis, Greg Page, James Broad, Bonecrusher Smith, and Frank Bruno, he also gave Holmes a heck of a fight. Other than Pinklon Thomas, the prime version of Witherspoon was never beaten. He was also a more technically skilled fighter than Tyson. All of the guys aforementioned, as well as Leon Spinks, Michael Dokes, Gerrie Coetzee, Mike Weaver, and Trevor Berbick were all great heavies, but were only hw champ once, or not at all. Witherspoon was only the third to regain the title (although it was not unified), he was one of the most skilled of his time, he was tough as nails, a helluva puncher, and EXTREMELY underrated.

 

I guess I can't talk to you. Holmes and Witherspoon were MUCH GREATER technicians. Saying Tyson was more skilled is not even something worth arguing.

 

ya, everyone thinks I'm crazy. Tyson's overrated (tho great), Spoon's underrated, and Larry can't be overrated.

 

Sorry if I came off a little rude, it's just my opinion, nothing to argue about, but debate is certainly okay.

 

Ya, Weaver was good, but he didn't beat as many big names as Tim in the 80s. He beat Tate and Coetzee, beat Tillis (that was controversial, and beat Carl Truth Williams. Tate, Coetzee, and Williams were amazing wins, but Tim beat many more big names than Weaver. Too bad Weaver and Witherspoon never fought. Darn.

 

It really all depends on if Mike gets in one of his do-nothing moods. Mike was a great fighter, he just tended to do nothing. He was one of those great last-second, one-punch knockout artists, but it take more than one punch to KO Tim near the end, that's why I prefer Tim in this fight.

 

You know, being the guy-who-worships-one-fighter gets kind of boring after a while, it's no fun to talk to. You should really branch out, watch some different fighters, different divisions, different eras, it really is fun.
