I had sparred a good bit in my TKD classes from grades 5-7 but that is so much different than boxing.

I had sparred (boxing) my 2 older brothers and my Dad (a former Army boxer) a lot but they took it easy on me.

The first time I sparred in a boxing gym was the summer after 7th grade (12 1/2 years old) and I thought I was so damn fast lol I wasn't cocky but in the back of my head I was thinking, "they are going to be impressed with my fast hands, oh yeah!". Well, I was very fast but that doesn't help when you miss or don't bring your hands back quick enough to protect yourself from counters! I got my face marked up pretty good but I stuck with it.

I had trouble with the overhand right/left. I wanted to fight left handed even though I was right handed. I tried switching too much early on and really always did. I got to the point where I felt pretty comfortable jabbing and hooking from either stance... I didn't want to throw too many overhand rights/lefts or even crosses.

I would jab and hook from the orthodox stance, switch, then jab and hook from the southpaw stance. Crazy I guess? I just felt like I could land more punches and protect myself better this way. I'm pretty hard headed.

Left hook, although it is a natural shot for me, when I break it down in the gym it looks fairly rubbihs but when I'm in the ring it just flows.

Uppercut to the liver...difficult to land properly on higher level competition because you have to work so hard to set this punch up.

I had the hardest time learning a really straight right hand, its not a natural thing to throw. Nothing seemed to help, trainers would work on it with pads, etc., but it was so labored and I couldn't hit anyone with it. Finally what worked for me, by accident, was throwing nothing but straight rights at a speed bad, hour after hour, week after week. For some reason this put it together for me and I ended up being able to thread a needle with straight right hand leads.

MY left hook had to be worked on, I used to have my elbow out too far from my body, just really an arm punch ,took a while to get it right.
Never really got proficient with the left uppercut ,but found uppercuts from the right hand quite natural.
I was told to jab through my opponent so it makes you deliver it with commitment, allways could drop the right in ok.,now I couldn't even get my hands in position

I've never even bothered trying that sort of thing. When I foul, it is always very blatant.

A left hook is easy to throw though. You just lean to the left, and grit down and sling it to their ribcage.

    Lead uppercut. Just feels awkward.

My left jabs and hooks work fine, but the left uppercuts and overhand lefts just can't get the same kind of consistent power. Once in awhile, but not consistently.

Bringing up a right uppercut from a right hook to the body. I had no problem with this using my left and it carried speed with a sting, but right handed, it was slower and more awkward. Tyson was arguabley the best executioner of this that ive seen, well, at heavyweight anyway

Depends on the fighter. Some guys are natural hookers, others are not.

I have heard the left uppercut from an orthodox fighter is the toughest to master.
