I think that was a pretty decent idea to have such elliminator tournaments. They should be conducted every year in each ABC organization. assuming Gomez is next WBC mandatory, my picks for the next one would be (the best if mix between 2 young and two older guys): WBC - Toney-Haye, Maskaev-Arreola WBA - Meehan-Bidenko, Golota-Dimitrenko IBF - Ibragimov-Chambers, Rahman-Sam WBO - Barrett-Chapman, Minto-Boytsov The evenual replacement may include Brewster and Thompson.
He wasnt impressive in the last fight, and Maskaev fought prett decent until 6th round. If Arreola dont get in shape and come at 260lb the fight mey be open.
Arreola's team should seriously consider Maskaev for the late November fight. I swear Dan Goossen is a pretty poor promoter, struggles to get the big money fights for Williams & Arreola all year long. If Arreola was with Top Rank or Golden Boy he would be either exposed or just about a world champ by now. Goossen may get Arreola something by 2011 at this rate.
