Lenin Castillo vs. Ricardo Campillo, 4 rounds @ super middleweight

 

Ouch. THIS is the co-main event (seriously, they announced it as such) over bouts on this same card that are scheduled to be twice as long featuring former champs Vivian Harris and Joan Guzman? :rofl That is insulting to them, even if they're not exactly at high points in their careers..

 

Round 1

Castillo is throwing high jabs to the face and then leaning in with his arms folded up in front of his tightly braided head. Uppercut inside by Castillo as Campillo tries to flurry down at him. BIG counter left hook by Castillo. Campillo steps back and tries to line up a right hand, flat footed and legs spread wide. HUGE counter right by Castillo, rocking Campillo back. Castillo jumps on him and unloads with hooks and rights. Campillo tries to punch with him, slapping out with hooks. Gum shield out. Replaced. His corner stalls, buying time. Campillo comes back at Castillo, and gets his legs wobbled again by another right. Jabs by Campillo circling left. Weak body shots by Campillo. Castillo waits his turn, then chops with a quick right hand to back Campillo up. Flurry by Campillo, and he eats a BIG left hook before the bell.

I'm not salty about him getting jilted for co-main event status, though. :yep

He hasn't quite gotten himself up there with a Vivian Harris or Joan Guzman or even Ed Paredes..

...or, apparently, a Lenin Castillo with only half the pro bouts he has. :!:

 

Round 2

Big knockdown by Castillo off a right hand. Campillo is up and hungry for more, chasing Castillo back and running face first into counters with his feet kicked out wide and his arms down, chin hanging up. Almost the opposite of sound defensive strategy, and it isn't like it's he's shipping quality offense at its expense. HUGE RIGHT HAND, another knockdown. Campillo up again, back for more. BIG LEFT HOOK, RIGHT HAND KNOCKDOWN by Castillo at the ten second clap, and THAT WILL DO IT!!

"Bye bye, adios!" says the commentator.

Yeah.

Damn, Campillo is on his back not moving, breathing rapidly. He could probably have been saved from himself after the second knockdown, if not the first.

 

Okay, he got up.

If a guy spends more than half a minute on the floor, I start getting nervous. It's been eight months since the Kovalev vs. Simakov tragedy, but you don't shake the image of something like that easily.
