there's two ways you can look at it...

in the great past they had the Top 10 WORLD WIDE (mostly Americans), IMPOSSIBLE to be 100% accurate and also, bias aside, Still UNFAIR. WHY?

well there were At Least 3 great fighting nations, US & Canada, Britain & Europe, Australia & S. Africa, then later Mexico and the Latin Countries became the leaders among the smaller weights.

So just allowing for those LEADING nations you rightfully had the Rings Top 10 (not always 'unbiased' or accurate), and at least 6 of the other Top 10s, from the other leading nations, at least.

So in theory you had a world wide Top 30 - 40 men, and though still not absolute, much more accurate & realistic to the thousands of fighting men world wide.

but back then there were only 8 divisions and tens of thousands of competitors, so a Top 30 - 50 was easy done!

but today with 17 divisions, 5 major sactioning bodies and some even lesser belts too, and NO WHERE near the numbers of competitors it becomes quite a week line up of 50 men. There will better fighter than those listed too, but still not even close to the competition of fighters from past better eras.

 

And do journalists ever pick up on this and say anything of this dilution in the quality of world title fights? No. I remember when we had just the WBC and WBA and there'd probably be a total of about twelve heavyweights ranked between them in their top tens - who thus qualified for a title shot. This is one of the reasons why I'm not up in arms that when it comes to showing boxing the BBC and ITV don't want to know.

 

Ok but those rankings you put up are not the true top 50 heavyweights?

 

they could be, but their not, but they are pretty poor ehh

but the point is with the 4 main governing bodies they can't (and won't) even agree on a Literal Top 10 or 15.

in other words they should basically be the same TOP fighters for all the orgs.

but their not, because they have to support & sustain their own BS org and "sell" their own ****.

this does 2 things, it belittles and robs better and true top contenders, but worse it waters down boxing by selling and hyping up **** to a very poor and ill informed general sport fan.

and you wonder why boxing is dead - because it's dam near ****!!!

 

so just follow better rankings.

You seem to be missing the point completely, it's not about which rankings you follow, it's the fact that a champion can get away with defending against someone so lowly ranked in the world!
