    I concur.

Tua would have an outside chance to land a bomb, but Holmes was pretty resourceful, even at 42.

    Possible, but improbable.

Holmes was a much more intelligent fighter than Maskaev, Rahman, Izon, or Oquendo, all of whom represent Tua's most notable late-round knockouts.

His survival skills are impeccable, and I think, even at 42, he has too many tricks up his sleeve for the one dimensional Tua.

Wow just great. People in other threads have tua knocking out peak versions of Marciano and Dempsey, yet a 42 year slow as molasses larry holmes beating tua easily.

    Who said THAT?

I don't think it would be easy, per se, but I think Holmes would probably beat him.

Toss-up for me, I'll go with Holmes UD.

Tall stick+move fighters were the ones that gave Tua trouble, and Holmes is durable enough to be able to survive the occaisonal bomb. He was still fairly mobile at 42, too.

I'm talking about the Holmes that beat Mercer.

Tua was an even more predictable and one-dimensional fighter than Mercer, with stubby arms too.
Holmes would be one step ahead of him all the time, peppering him with shots.

I don't think so. I don't think Holmes at age 42 would have the stamina or the strength to hold Tua off of him for the entire fight. Holmes at 42 was a very good fighter, but he didn't have enough of his original talents - speed, quickness, stamina, or even jab - to fend off a David Tua who was motivated and in shape. David Tua was more dangerous than Ray Mercer and took just as good a punch. HOlmes had enough to outbox a guy like Mercer, but TUa would be a tougher assignment.

i think holmes would outpoint him.

tua would ko next to every heavyweight who comes at him, but if you had some smarts, he was helpless.

holmes wouldnt miss with that jab...........and pick up point after point.

sure, tua could get lucky............but i wouldnt base my prediction on predicting a lucky punch.

    holmes by ud.

Is it just me, or am I the only one who doesn't think HOlmes' jab at age 42 was all that special. Sure, he still was a good boxer with a good jab, but his jab was nowhere near being the piledriver it was during his prime. AGainst a slow, plodding guy like Mercer, Holmes did better with his "rope-a-dope" and corner fighting than he did at center ring with his jab. Mercer walked through a lot of Holmes' best punches! The same goes for the Holyfield fight; Holmes got by just as much on his experience, craftiness, and ring smarts as he did by way of his jab. Tua proved he could fight at a torrid pace against a fast, strong fighter - the Ibeaubuchi fight - so I don't see how a Larry Holmes at 42 could win. I think he'd get outworked and eventually stopeed!

Holmes at 42, closer to 43, out jabbed Holyfield and messed broke down his attacks and work rate. Holmes's jab in his early 40's wasn't what it was back in 1980, but it was still very good. I think Larry would win a ud. It's not like it would be a shut out, but I don't think it would neck and neck the whole time.
