Edgardo Lopez vs. Gadiel Andaluz, 6 rounds @ super featherweight

 

Edgar "Sasso" Lopez has appeared on Telefutura a few times before, and is a bit of a fan favorite.

 

Round 1

Lopez is circling around Andaluz and jabbing him in the body. Andaluz tries a windmilled right and misses. Lopez turns away from a left hook and then moves in with his own sloppy combo to the body. 1-2 to the face while leaning inside. Nice double hook to the face. Andaluz may be hurt. He holds on. Right hand lead by Andaluz, almost a jab as he momentarily goes southpaw. Left hook and right hand by Lopez, firing hard to clear a path and get Andaluz backing up. Jabs to the body by Andaluz. Wide hook and a badly telegraphed right hand over the top by Andaluz, and another right missing even worse.

Round 2

Lopez is backing Andaluz up with jabs and uppercuts, rocking him back against the ropes. Andaluz tries to slide down past the jab and work the body but Lopez is checking his progress with short vicious hooks. BIG combination to the jaw has Andaluz involuntarily squatting and his buttocks brush the canvas, ruled a knockdown and he's given a count in the corner. Andaluz comes straight at Lopez, trying to stall any momentum. Uppercuts by Andaluz. Lopez fights his way off the ropes, hard straight punches.

Round 3

Andaluz is moving to his left, trying to catch Lopez coming in with lead rights and then shouldering up against him but getting hit with body shots and straights to the face. Lopez manages to get him on the ropes with a hook and presses him there, dodging his low tackles and attempts to grab.

Round 4

Andaluz is throwing badly telegraphed rights from outside, and falling in against Lopez to try and swallow him up in embrace. Lopez hammers him back and exchanges body shots with him. Hard 1-2 by Lopez pushing Andaluz to the ropes. Shoe shine to the face by Lopez. Wild right hand by Andaluz. Lazy jab by Andaluz, countered by a big right hand from Lopez.

Round 5

Lopez is hooking on the in-step at Andaluz, and plugging away with rights to the body. Andaluz catches shots on his forearms and then swings them into the body of Lopez, not even bothering to try and make contact with the legal scoring portion of his fists. Very sloppy work, on both ends actually, but Lopez is a bit tidier and also landing the heavier blows. Lopez jabs and ducks as Andaluz steps in and climbs him. Lopez pushes him to a corner, landing jabs and rights to the face. Andaluz flurries his way out.

Round 6

Lopez is going for broke, slamming down on Andaluz with jabs and overhand rights. Andaluz is put into a corner several times but keeps shoving and grinding his way out. Lopez hammers away, relentless. Andaluz finally goes down in a corner as Lopez jumps into a hook with his full body weight behind it. Andaluz beats the count and hangs on, hugging Lopez until instructed to let go and doing it again until the final bell.

Damn, ESB experienced a mega-crash there...out for more than half an hour. (40+ minutes)

Fortunately I saved all my RBR date into a text file while watching the Azteca card live and was able to copy and paste it into that thread. Now I can catch up on the Solo Boxeo main event thanks to the miracle of modern technology called DVR. :banana

 

Round 1

Robles circles and swats with his hook. Herrera stays outside, orbiting Robles and pushing out his left jab. Robles trots in and throws fierce shots to the body, getting Herrera to skitter back and stretch the jab out further. Herrera isn't jabbing to score, more to get in Robles' way and slow him down. Slow paced round but Robles' aggression and few body shots were plenty.

Round 2

Robles pushes Herrera back with jabs to the body, trying to line up a right hand to the head. Herrera is keeping himself a small target, shrinking back and moving his head. A few tentative jabs by Herrera, but little else in the way of offense. Herrera gets an arm around Robles' neck and holds on the inside. Robles leans heavily to either side, bobbing on the way in, trying to set up a big power shot. Leaping left hook by Robles, and a right hand. Herrera sticks out a jab while hopping backward. Robles leans to his left out of the way of Herrera's jab and tries to hook the body. Clinch.

Round 3

Jabs by Herrera, scoring. Robles comes forward, tilting his shoulders back to try and roll with the jabs, then launches his own hard right hands behind a jab. Herrera DOWN off a right hand. He gets up quickly and shakes it off. Herrera's bravery is tested as Robles comes charging in, throwing hard rights to the body and big sweeping hooks up top. Herrera is caught unexpectedly and jolted with a jab while turning Robles with quick lateral steps. Robles lets Herrera touch him with an uppercut to the body and crashes a right hand down atop his head. Herrera is backed up but trying to get Robles' respect and sitting down on his shots now. Robles is focusing more on defense and letting Herrera lead as he presses in, content to simply counter from a tight guard.
