That’s the tricky part… Tommy had assets like courage and genuine power/speed he didn’t get shy in a fight (though he took the easy way out against Foreman lol) his best chance to me is to warm up big time before the fight and go out and try to overwhelm Holmes absolutely empty the clip to me that’s his only shot… (he certainly could take his head off, he was about as powerful as Mike) after 3 rounds he might as well spit out the mouth guard because it means Holmes has probably figured out how to hit him with a right hand and neutralise his left hook, like Ali, Holmes was always moving to his left I think he could just play keep away with the left hook IMO using his feet and get his timing down.

in his own words in his book, he was real hurt by that jab. had Mercer jumped on him and swarmed him right then, he might have been able to end it.

Holmes aged oddly. He never really lost his reflexes and hand speed, just his foot speed. That’s why he’s back into the corner often as an older fighter. If the other guy just stood in front of him, he still had what he needed to outbox the guy.

As to Tommy, I tend to agree he might have been too much. Then again, Holmes went the distance with Holyfield. Yes, Holyfield didn’t have Tommy’s power, but he was also a better fighter.

Holmes beat Mercer and put up a very good effort against Holyfield who were both prime fighters, I can see him beating prime Morrison winning a decision in a tough fight.

There are a few threads I could have posted this sentiment in but picked this one, I rate Morrison and Norton just about equal, I think the fight would be similar in that Holmes would have moments of pretty serious trouble but ultimately prevail, Morrison wasn't as imposing as Tyson, Holmes wouldn't be as overwhelmed and could better maintain generalship with his jab, Norton also had better pacing for going into deepish water than Morrison, basically early on Morrison is more survivable than Tyson and fades more than Norton later on

At well over 40 years old, his chin survived the firepower of Mercer, fresh off a KO win over 22 year old Morrison and the firepower of Oliver McCall, fresh off a KO win of 30 year old Lennox Lewis. A 43 year old Holmes chin was more solid than many of history's prime heavyweights.
