Battle of the dinosaur contenders. While Briggs is circling the globe chasing Wlad, occasionally stopping at a KoC hall to crush a can, Tony Thompson is busy trying to make fights with top 20s one after another, not even pretending to want a trilogy with Wladimir. Briggs' antics have caught the imagination of K2, and it would be a good sell on his stalking alone, but having done NOTHING to earn it, the K2 should sign him to a 2 fight deal and promote him. First fight.....vs Tony Thompson. If he wins it, he gets the voluntary defense vs Wlad. He loses it, and he's handed a consolation prize vs Banks. How do y'all think this would play out? Could Briggs impose his power on Thompson while giving up size, and could Briggs take the Tiger's power???? Yeah, he took Vitali's but we all know how that turned out for him. And Tony Thompson is a far better combination puncher than Vitali is. I see this one going the distance with the Tiger earning a 117-110 type win with the Cannon winning a rd with a KD of the Tiger, and maybe winning an early one as the Tiger usually starts a little slow.:think
Thompson SCHOOLS him. Thompson is a much better HW than Briggs ever was, despite never winning a strap. Briggs is one of the luckiest, and least deserving HW champions of all time. Sly, and cagey Thompson puts a schooling on him. I'd pick this version of Thompson to school the Briggs from the mid 2000s as well.
A more interesting match up would be 44 year old Meehan v.s Briggs, I think Meehan schools him as well. He had a good showing against Cameron, looked pretty good for his age.
The pathetic attempt at comedy in the poll drove me off from picking any of the dreadful options. Thompson beats Briggs. Both a stoppage and a decision is very possible in this one, though a decision is more likely.
According to the WBA he is a top 10 contender. Not as I say, but as the World Boxing Association says.:good
Yeah, IF...... Old Meehan is still far quicker, and nimble than roided, slow as molasses Briggs. My money is on Meehan by wide decision.
It's either Briggs by KO, or Thompson by UD. Past his prime fighter vs a fighter who never had a prime. Gosh, Thompson is garbage though. He's slow and gets by on being tall. This is what you get when you start fighting in your 30's. Briggs, at least, was at one time a pretty athletic fighter. Problem with older Briggs is he looks for the one punch, and loses too many rounds. Sometimes that one punch KO never comes. I'll pick Briggs tough because he at least had a prime.
He gets by on being a sly, cagey southpaw with a high ring IQ/toughness. Thompson is no bum..... :good
Meehan doesn't have a bad chin. :? I mean, Wilson vs. Briggs happened, so can't we just as easily say all Meehan has to do Is touch Briggs' chin? :deal
